Peter Boiger is an internationally renowned sculptor, best known for his Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem. Born in Altotting, Germany, in 1941, Boiger currently resides and works in Northern California.

Boiger learned wood working at his grandfather’s carpentry shop. When he was about 15, he became aware of the works of Henry Moore and other 20th-century sculptors. He was hooked. “It just spoke to me,” he says. “Henry Moore was a very powerful influence.”

Peter’s influences expanded to include African, Japanese and pre-Colombian cultures. He works in several mediums, Bronze, Stone and Wood. Coup D’Etat has been honored to represent select works from the Peter Boiger Collection since 2012.

Boiger’s concepts for sculpture are generally derived from his observation of natural forms. He analyzes and combines organic forms with figurative elements, deriving an “anthropomorphic hybrid” (particularly in his vertical pieces).

Boiger’s work also shows a penchant for expressionism (particularly evident in the dynamic composition of his vertical figures) and is reminiscent of cycladic figures and tribal art forms. His tall vertical figures also bring to mind the totem carvings from the Pacific Northwest native carvers as well as contemporary works from such artists as Brancusi, Giacometti, and Moore.
