Absolutely the biggest and best local garden show in Ontario and it is operated by the Peterborough Horcultural Society and

Peterborough Master Gardeners! Plans are well under way for this year’s show with an excing slate of speakers including

Marjorie Mason, Paul Zammit, Dugald Cameron and Beckie Fox and of course our own Dawn Tack.

We have wonderful ideas of how to transform the Evinrude Centre into a garden wonderland and will need help in this area.

The Celebrity Flower Arranging Contest on the Friday evening will be a great opportunity to cheer on your favourite!

Corry Vanderkooy from Pamme’s Flower Shop will demonstrate how to make an arrangement and then our celebries will

have a chance to prove how talented they are. Ken Tremblay, CEO of the hospital, Gary Dalliday, rered sportscaster,

Peer Christenson, arst and store owner and John Mackle, rered school board superintendent have all agreed to have fun

and learn a lile at the same me. There is also an open flower arranging compeon entled “Spring Fling” and we

encourage all members to enter (see the website for rules and regulaons).

Kawartha Arsts Galley and Studio will be showing their horcultural themed painngs again and this year they will be for

sale. BE Catering and Kyoto Coffee will be providing the refreshments and their menus look excing.

We have a full lineup of demonstraons including a panel of Master Gardeners who will try to answer all your gardening

quesons. The Scissor Man, Robbie Preston, will be set up outside and can sharpen all your garden tools and knives. It will be

great to start the garden season with your tools sharp and ready to go. Bring cash as Robbie only takes cash payment.

If friends and family want to avoid long line ups, Joan Harding is selling advance ckets and can be reached at

705.799. 5378 or [email protected]. They are also available at Custom Copy on King St., Avant-Garden Shop on Sherbrooke

St. and Lakefield Flowers in Lakefield with more vendors to follow in March when the nurseries reopen.

We have rack cards available to get the word out and at the March meeng we will have posters for you to put up.

Visit www.peterboroughgardens.ca for more informaon.

Once again it looks like a terrific show, so spread the word and come and enjoy that first taste of spring.

Rachel Burrows, Show Chair

Garden Show Volunteers It’s that me of year again!

Thanks to all who signed up at the January meeng. ShiUs are set up for 2 hours at a me. Volunteers are needed for set up,

take down, cashiers for booths, membership table, runners, cket takers and booth relievers. For set up and take down we

are again appealing for "men with trucks" and electric drills for picking up items from the

storage locker and assembling at the Evinrude. This would be for Thursday, the 11th in the morning and again for take down

on Sunday aUer the 4 pm closing.

We also have a new category which I am hoping some of you could give a 2 hour shiU for during setup me on Thursday

throughout the day and Friday morning when vendors are arriving as well as your shiUs during the Show. It is for signing out

tables and chairs to vendors as they arrive. It is a "sit down" job. If you have never been there during Show set up, it is

interesng to see behind the scenes as it all comes together.

This is a huge undertaking and we tradionally have about 100 volunteers, many of you taking more than one shiU over the

course of the Show. I thank you in advance for your generous commitment of me. It is one of the

successes of our Show.

I can be contacted at 705-741-1101 or by e-mail at [email protected].
