A study of unity between functionalism and minimalism, the Afteroom Stool is the ultimate

expression of the Bauhaus-inspired Afteroom series. It is a stool cut back to the absolute

necessities, yet it still operates as an integral part of an overall space, adding strong, clean

lines to any room.

How do you strip away even more from an already pared-down chair, including the back-

rest, yet retain a high level of comfort? Stockholm-based design duo Afteroom answers this

question with their eponymous stool, a piece of furniture that manages to be both quiet and

attention-grabbing at once.

The Afteroom Stool is rendered in black powder coated steel and comes with or without

an upholstered seat. The stool is available in three heights—stool, counter stool, and bar

stool—making it easy to slide up against a bar or keep in the home as small-space or addi-

tional seating. In keeping with the original Afteroom chair series, this extension of the hugely

popular line is bound to be embraced by those looking to enhance the seating in their com-

mercial or residential spaces.

The line between a chair and a stool may be the simple curve of a backrest, but the design

process is as meticulous for one as the other. The Afteroom Dining Chair was MENU’s first

foray into the world of chair design. Given the Scandinavian heritage in iconic chair design,

we knew that this chair needed to be special. Stockholm-based Taiwanese design team Af-

teroom was tasked with creating a chair that was both minimalist and comfortable, with a

silhouette that was both sleek and instantly recognisable. The three-legged Afteroom Dining

Chair, with its distinctively small backrest and swan-like swoop of the neck, hits the mark

perfectly.

Upholstered and bar-level versions followed. The newly-released Afteroom Stool takes the

series a step further, to a place of ultimate minimalism and easy comfort. With clean lines

and a sturdy base, the Afteroom Stool is as much at home pulled up to the window of a coffee

shop as it is around the dinner table.

About the Designer

MENU, the Danish design brand with a vision to shape the future of modern living, is expanding

its furniture collection with a Danish design classic: the Knitting Chair, created by architect and

furniture designer Ib Kofod-Larsen in 1951. Capturing the essence of MENU, the lounge chair

unites innovative form with traditional craftsmanship, bringing breathtaking materials and

details, calm, natural tones, and an expressive presence to modern spaces. As MENU grows

internationally and enters a new era in its history, the Knitting Chair naturally joins the collection

as a symbol of what it means to be a true classic.

Production Process

The frame is made from powder-coated

bent steel tubes with brass weldings. The

seat and back rest are milled MDF with a

painted finish. The upholstery is made from

Kvadrat - Basel or the finest selected

European Aniline leather, from Sørensen

leather.
