• In the early 20th century, European powers took over the lands of the Middle East that had once been ruled by the mighty (and mostly peaceful) Ottoman Empire.

• Europeans believed, like many Americans today, that they could do a better job of organizing the Middle East than the Ottomans had.

• They set about a plan of Nation Building to create new nations out of the religious and ethnic groups in the area.

• You will do the same thing.

Use the demographic data and the map to redraw the middle east into stable countries.Please follow the instructions with these changes:Your Justification and Explanation of Strength and Weaknesses will be on a separate piece of binder paper.You will not make a poster.

To consider:

• Make sure each country-– Has access to water– Has access to farmland– Has a city– Has access to a river or ocean for trade

• You should also respect/consider– Ethnicity– Religion– Population
