 Project GreenHands – Highlights Project GreenHands (PGH) was launched during the world environmental day in June 2004 under the aegis of the Isha Foundation to prevent the state of Tamil Nadu from facing a s ocio-economic disaster due to environmental degradation. Its mission is to inspire individuals to realize one's inevitable dependency on nature and support a culture of environmental care. Project GreenHands aims to create a people’s movement that will increase the green cover of Tamil Nadu by 10% by planting 114 million saplings. By the end of 2010, over 10 million saplings have been planted by over 1 million volunteers throughout Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Growth since inception 2004  Launched PGH on World Environmental Day  Vanashree Eco Centre was started along with the Velliangiri Hills Conservation Project in association with the Forest Department to conserve the ecology of the mountains 2005  25,000 saplings planted in 6 Tsunami affected villages with 5,000 volunteers 2006  In a single day, 8,52,587 trees planted in 27 districts of Tamil Nadu and in Pondicherry territory with 256,289 volunteers to create a Guinness World Record 2007  Over 40,00,000 saplings produced by 427 volunteer nurseries and planted by more than 1,00,000 people all over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry for pl antation.
