Introduction to Pharm.D

Pharm.D is a clinical oriented post HSC, 6 year integrated PG course, affiliated to the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. The course is regulated and approved by the PCI, New Delhi.

As per the syllabus every student of PharmD. programme is to be posted in a constituent hospital for a period of 50 hrs per year in each of second, third and fourth year.

In the fifth year every student shall attend ward rounds on daily basis as a part of clerkship. (half day clerkship)

Sixth year: Internship or residency training including postings in the specialty units ( provide clinical pharmacy services i.e. ward round participation, patient counseling, drug and poison information service, support to the medical and paramedical staff )

To fulfill these conditions, institute conducting Pharm.D course is required to enter in to an agreement (MOU) with a minimum 300 bed hospital with a provision for pharmacy practice department with at least 1200 square feet area.

Role of Pharmacy Practice department in hospital,To control and monitor the curricular activities of Pharm. D

students posted in the hospital. To provide drug information service to hospital staff and

members of society.To provide place of interaction between students and

preceptors.To liaison between hospital and college.

Role of DIC:- DIC will provide ready access to the drug information like,

drug interaction, compatibility, pharmacovigilance, drug toxicity, toxicity management, poison information and new drug molecules.

Benefits to the hospital:-Computerized DIC will provide ready access to the latest drug information, pharmacovigilance, poison information and new drug molecules. Pharmacy counseling service to the patients and members of the society.Students of Pharm.D course will assist the faculty and authorities of the hospital in the implementation and monitoring of National Health Programs and schemes oriented to provide preventive and promotive health care services to the community.Assistance to the paramedical and nursing staff in dispensing of medication to the patients.

Benefits to the Institute:-Exposure of the students to the actual clinical

practices in hospital will enhance their professional knowledge and expertise.

Students will gain experience through ward round participation.

Students will be trained under the guidance of preceptors.
