Initial Construction Phasing There will be two distinct phases of the construction with an interim stage allowing for the tie in works for the transition between phases 1 and 2. The construction phases are summarised in the following flow chart with further details outlined below. Phase 1: Phase 1 involves the demolition of the two existing bus shelters to the west of the site with operation of the remaining three shelters maintained during this phase. MM drawing no. Access and egress in to the retained part of the bus interchange will remain as a signal controlled junction off Wellington Road (A6043) with only minor modifications required. Once demolition has been completed, construction will begin on the proposed bus interchange and access road off Oldham Road. Interim Phase: After completion of the proposed bus interchange building and access during phase 1, minor demolition works are required so that phase 2 of the construction can commence. It is likely that these works will be carried out at off peak times i.e. at night, as the bus interchange will not be operational during this phase. The yellow hatching on drawing no. Tameside Interchange

With the proposed development to Tameside Interchange it is vital that disruption to the existing

bus services, pedestrian routes and the highway is minimised. The below construction phasing plan

results in minimal disruption to the highway network whilst phasing the construction and demolition

in order retain bus services.

Initial Construction Phasing

There will be two distinct phases of the construction with an interim stage allowing for the tie in

works for the transition between phases 1 and 2. The construction phases are summarised in the

following flow chart with further details outlined below.

Phase 1:

Phase 1 involves the demolition of the two existing bus shelters to the west of the site with

operation of the remaining three shelters maintained during this phase. MM drawing no. MMD-

348124-T-DR-00-XX-0005_P4 in Appendix A presents this phase with the yellow hatching

representing the area of demolition which also includes an existing 2-storey building. Access and

egress in to the retained part of the bus interchange will remain as a signal controlled junction off

Wellington Road (A6043) with only minor modifications required. Once demolition has been

completed, construction will begin on the proposed bus interchange and access road off Oldham

Road.

Interim Phase:

After completion of the proposed bus interchange building and access during phase 1, minor

demolition works are required so that phase 2 of the construction can commence. It is likely that

these works will be carried out at off peak times i.e. at night, as the bus interchange will not be

operational during this phase. The yellow hatching on drawing no. MMD-348124-T-DR-00-

XX-0007_P2 in Appendix A presents the area of demolition during the interim phase.

Phase 2:

Phase 2 of the construction involves the demolition of the remaining three shelters of the existing

interchange with this area forming a proposed car park for the new development. During this phase

the new interchange will be operating with access off Oldham Road and egress onto Wellington

Road. It should be noted that during this stage, 2 of the bus stands will not be operational due to

Demolition:

insufficient clearance between the interchange building and the site boundary of the demolition

works. These stands are indicated on the following page on an extract of MM drawing no. MMD-

348124-T-DR-00-XX-0006_P3 (full version in Appendix A).

Final Phase:

The final phase of construction involves the final tie in works required between the interchange and

the proposed car park to the east of the site including road markings, kerbing etc.

Tameside Interchange

Assumed Construction Waste Methodology

It is intended, where practicable, that materials such as re-bar and foundation materials will be

recycled and reused for the proposed construction works of the new interchange. Subject to an

asbestos survey and report of the existing single storey building the materials such as brickwork and

concrete will be stored on site and re-used as granular fill. Any contaminated material will be

removed from the site. In addition, any steelwork, concrete or re-bar from the existing bus shelters

will be reused where possible for the proposed building work.

At this stage it is difficult to implement sustainability procedures, however through the re-use and

recycling of materials as mentioned above sustainability issues will be addressed. In addition, it is

proposed that a contractor will be appointed with a background of addressing sustainability on site

and in particular waste management.

Tameside Interchange

Proposed Demolition Method Statement

As mentioned in the construction phasing section the proposed development requires the

demolition of an existing single storey building and the existing steel-framed bus shelters. All

demolition works shall be carried out in accordance with BS6187: 2011 Code of Practice for Full &

Partial Demolition. The Demolition Contractor shall be responsible for arranging access and egress to

and from the site and shall agree all such matters with the authorities concerned.

The extent of demolition of the single storey building will comprise the following:

1. Disconnection of all private services and utilities to the building including gas, gas electric,

water, telecoms.

2. Disconnection / abandonment of all private services and utilities with the building footprint

including gas, gas electric, water, telecoms.

3. A demolition survey will be undertaken leading to the removal of all asbestos material with

contaminated material being removed immediately from the site.

4. As indicated on MM drawing no. MMD-348124-T-DR-00-XX-0005_P4 (in Appendix A),

demolition of the building to ground level and excavation of all foundations, pile caps,

ground slabs, basements will be undertaken.

5. Grub up all hard-standings within the site boundary to remove surfacing materials.

6. Removal of all demolition plant and material unless designated for re-use for the

construction of the proposed Interchange building.

The extent of demolition of the bus shelters will comprise the following:

1. Disconnection of all private services and utilities to the building including gas, gas electric,

water, telecoms.

2. Disconnection / abandonment of all private services and utilities with the building footprint

including gas, gas electric, water, telecoms.

3. Demolition of the bus shelters will be undertaken. Refer to MM drawing nos.

MMD-348124-T-DR-00-XX-0005_P3 & MMD-348124-T-DR-00-XX-0006_P3 (in Appendix A)

for extent of demolition as this is dependent on the existing positon within the site i.e.

demolition to foundation level or demolition including foundations, pile caps, floor slabs.

4. Grub up all hard-standings within the site boundary to remove surfacing materials.

5. Removal of all demolition plant and material unless designated for re-use for the

construction of the proposed Interchange building.
