Biography

Phil Brown

From the bustling streets of San Francisco to the towering

peaks of Manhattan’s Lower Eastside and from the rolling hills of

Texas to the frozen lakes of Minnesota, Phil Brown’s

unmistakable trail of media accomplishments are well-

documented.

His zest for entertainment marketing and public relations is the

byproduct of early exposure to the performing arts and his

recognition of the need for preserving great art forms, good

commentary, and wholesome representation in the international

communication spectrum.

Since effective marketing, promotions, and public relations are crucial to artists’ longevity,

Brown prioritizes the public image and commercial success of each entity he represents,

whether corporate, music, film, theater, or sports.

Before enjoying success as a publicist and lecturer, Brown was

a journalist for major urban dailies and magazines. This involved

reviewing concerts, books, movies, and plays and conducting one-

on-one interviews with the world’s greatest performers,

educators, athletes, and authors. This experience proved

invaluable to the kind of presentation that has made Brown’s

public relations ventures a resounding success.

A graduate of San Francisco’s Mission High School, Brown spent

his next four years as a student and representative at WBTS

Training and Education Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. There, he was a featured speaker on special

assignments, taught a free-of-charge public speaking class to inner-city

residents (Harlem, Brownsville, Flatbush, and Bedford Stuyvesant) and

participated in other socially rewarding assignments. After this

educational experience, Brown lectured on vital current events and the

human condition. This further honed his rhetorical skills, preparing him

for undertakings that involved extensive contract writing.

In the 1990s, Brown ventured into professional sports, contracting

with the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Sidekicks (soccer). During this period Brown was

successful in securing increased ticket sales and a flood of advertising for the sports franchises.

In 2003, Brown joined New York-based independent record label, True Life Entertainment

(now WMGW) as contract publicist, and in 2006, he was instrumental in the signing of Ben E.

King, Maxine Brown, and pianist-composer Peter Cor to single recording deals.

In 2007, Brown contracted with Hits Talent Agency (Motorcity

Hits), a Detroit-based record label to supply public relations for the

label, representing The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Dramatics,

and other established acts. During this same period, Brown

coordinated Ben E. King’s television appearance duet with Tony

Orlando during the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. Ben E.

King also performed on The Late Show with David Letterman that same year, and in late 2009,

he performed with Sean Kingston on Good Morning America. Also in that year, talented Freda

Payne performed masterfully to a hundred million viewers on the

season’s top-rated American Idol television production. For the 2009-

2010 television season, Brown composed Tito Jackson's the biographical

sketch for the A&E reality series The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty. And in

2010, Brown was commissioned to provide exclusive public relations for

BSE Recordings’ marquee artist Arika Kane. And in 2011, Arika appeared

in her first nationally-televised performance on The Monique Show. In

2013, Brown continues to represent an assortment of entities, including non-entertainment

sources.

In a nutshell, Brown’s biography is more about the artists he represents, and his aim is to

continue to labor at preserving great music, literature, and art for the enjoyment of future

generations.

LECTURES

Students and others who desire a career as vocalists and composers in the music industry wonder about topics such as contracts, options, letters of intent, performance rights organizations, how they are structured and what to look for in the fine print. Others aspire to the business side of the industry and are interested in careers behind the scene in marketing, promotions, public relations, artist management, retail, wholesale, concert promotions, booking agencies, how product gets from the recording studio to disc to the local Best Buy or other retail chains. All lectures include question & answer segments relative to any topics discussed. (Fees for public speaking requests to colleges and other institutions are determined at the time of inquiry. Educational institutions may be given special consideration due to inherent budgetary constraints.) For speaking requests contact the assignment desk: (817) 681-6068 (817) 498-7075.
