We hope you enjoyed the break from school routine and had some good family time together. Doesn’t the new field look great? We are also pleased to finally be able to make use of the pool. As a non-profit school, all funds generated from operating of AISHK are re-invested for development and enhancements - and because of your ongoing support we received a facelift over the term break. Special thanks go to all families who have donated to the school recently, and in particular, to our Parent Association who are the signature sponsor of the Aquatic Centre and to the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, who provided funds to support our re-turfing of the field. Term 2 will be a very important term as learning and routines are consolidated. This term holds plenty of hard work and new experiences. This week we look forward to celebrating Anzac Day and all students from Year 2 upwards will be involved with that special ceremony on Friday 23 April on the field at 10:30am. For the first time we also have a group of students travelling to Gallipoli to attend the Dawn Service there on 25 April. This week we get to ‘show off’ the field, hosting the ACAMIS High School Division One Soccer Tournament, which includes more than 120 visiting students from five international high schools from China. Thank you to those who are hosting and opening your home to visiting students. Please come along and cheer our teams on! This week the early childhood classes commence their swimming lessons and they have their swimming carnival here at school on 2 June. Then later in the term the secondary classes commence their swimming lessons. The reopening of the Parent Association Aquatic Centre is timely for the summer months and allowing the the School swim team to train. We also welcome Mr Alex Chung, who has joined us as the Aquatic Centre Manager. Official opening ceremonies for these enhanced venues will take place later in the term. In May students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 will sit the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy Testing (NAPLAN). We have been informed that the materials should arrive at our school to enable these students to sit these assessments during the week commencing 24 May. For the primary years the LEAP (Life Education Activity Program) van will be on site for two weeks this term to enable classes from Reception to Year 6 to attend. Teachers’ class programming will complement this activity. The Primary Peer Support program will run every Thursday this term and the Year 6 students, who have now been trained as leaders, will run these very worthwhile sessions. Towards the end of this term Primary students will hold their “Student Led Conference Day”. On this day students will only come to school for their hour long session. More information will be sent home about this day closer to the date. Mark it in your diary as it is a very important part of the Primary Division’s reporting of student progress to parents. At this session the children will show you evidence of their learning and progress and ‘walk you through’ their portfolio. We look forward to meeting new families in the coming days and we wish you all a very productive and successful term. School Wide NoticesCareers Night On evening of Wednesday 9 June, the School will be holding its annual Careers Night. During this evening students have the opportunity to hear from a number of speakers about their career and the possible pathways to different occupations.

Career education enhances a student’s ability to make informed decisions about their study and future work options. These decisions need to be based on a student’s own understanding of their abilities, skills, interests and values and the career options available to them.

The purpose of the evening is therefore to encourage students from the Secondary Division, and particularly students in Years 10, 11 and 12, to develop their awareness of possible future career paths.

Seeking Careers Presenters from the AISHK CommunityThe occupations represented by AISHK community are extensive and our Careers Night is a great opportunity for our students to hear about the wide range of careers they may consider in the future. If you or someone you know is able to volunteer time to speak to students, on the 9 June, about your occupation and/or your career journey our students would greatly appreciate you doing so.

Please inform me of your interest and availability to talk for around 20 minutes sometime between 5:30 and 7:30pm as part of our Careers Night on Wednesday 9 June, by emailing me at [email protected]. In your email please include your name and occupation/s and available time.
