Background:Background:
*Sudan's 1956 independence fromGreat Britain, the new governmentin Khartoum had begun a programof Arabization and Islamization ofthe whole country
*From the time being there isalready a demarcation in religionin these region ( SuddaneseMuslim vs. Christian andTraditionalist
*War broke out in 1955
* 1963- John Garang rebeled
*1983-Garang was fighting to endeconomic and political marginalization
of southerners by Khartoum and to
bring about the establishment of asecular government in Sudan
*Garang's success with Khartoum inspiredthe Black African Muslims in Darfur to
launch their own military campaign
against the Arab Sudanese government in2003
*in early 2003 after the Sudan LiberationArmy (SLA) and Justice and EqualityMovement (Jem) began attackinggovernment targets, accusing Khartoum ofoppressing black Africans in favour ofArabs.
*1970- a peace deal with Khartoumin the early
2003- the present- the Black Africans ofDarfur have launched a series of attacks
against government targets in the region

WHEREAS the Government of theSudan (Khartoum), the SudanLiberation Movement /Army(SLM/A) , the Justice and Equality
Movement (JEM) and theJanjaweed (hereinafter referred toas Parties)
CONDEMNING all acts againsthuman rights and killing of
innocent civillians
AFFIRMING the liberty,self-determination,and soverignty of Sudan State
BELIEVING that that this agreement willresolved the conflict
CONVINCED of necessary means to unifyand stabilized the darfur region
RESOLVED that the signing of thisAgreement shall be the beginning of a new
united Sudan with their people andgovernment working together
