STEP 1: Configure the Headset What is it?

The Philips Remote Device Manager, or RDM, allows users to remotely configure Philips Digital Pocket Memos, SpeechMikes and Foot Pedals, without the use of SpeechExec software.

The RDM tool can be used free of charge for user with up to 10 configurations. For unlimited configurations, a license key can be purchased.

STEP 1: Configure the Headset RDM Architecture

A Client-Server architecture solution consists of 3 components

RDM Management Console: Interface for administrators to manage configurations

RDM Server: Links the Management Console, Updater Client and MS Database

RDM Updater Client: Software for end user to update supported hardware

Page 4: Philips Remote Device Manager

STEP 1: Configure the Headset RDM: Management Console

The RDM Management Console is the management interface to the database of device configurations.

Installed on the same machine as the RDM Server. A copy can also be installed on any supported Windows PC.

Consist Four Sections (TABS) to the Management Console

- Configuration: Maintain device configurations- Firmware Files: Updates designated digital pocket memo’s- Introduction: Overview of the RDM- Troubleshooter: Help guides for troubleshooting issues

STEP 1: Configure the Headset RDM: Updater Client

Updater Client uploads configurations made in Management Console to users’ devices.

The client checks the connected device and looks for new configuration settings based on the model and serial number (DPM) or model and user name (SM) of the device.

The client also check the actual settings of the connected device and uploads them to the Server so they will be visible in the ‘Last known settings’ column in the Management Console.

The client downloads & maintains the list of all device configurations on a per-user basis.

STEP 1: Configure the Headset How does it work?

When a unit is connected to a computer or placed in a docking station, the configuration is automatically uploaded.

All settings are linked to each unit’s unique ID and stored in a central database.

Updates can easily be made at any time to individual units or groups of units.

Page 9: Philips Remote Device Manager

How does it work?

You can use the FileZilla Site Manager to specify specific site parameters and connect to the targeted FTP site.

The Site Manager allows you to store entries and configure more parameters than the Quick Connect allows.

1. Connect a new device to the PC running Updater Client.

2. The Updater Clients reads device settings and uploads them to the database server.

3. The device settings are now visible in the Management Console.

4. All changes will be sent back to the database server.

5. Next time the device is plugged in, the Updater Client searchesfor appropriate device configuration on the database server.

6. It downloads and applies all settings which are market with an overwrite flag.

7. Those settings which are not marked with an overwrite flag are not updated.

8. The final mixture of settings are uploaded back to the database.
