MAPLE SHADEOn an absolutely beauti-

ful day for softball, the Ma-ple Shade High School soft-ball team was nearlyflawless.

The Wildcats had terrif-ic pitching, they smacked11hits and they played sol-id defense - all leading toa 5-0victory over Riversidein a South Jersey Group 1quarterfinal contest Thurs-day afternoon in front of acrowd of about 300.

Maple Shade used athree-run home run toright field by Katelyn De-Pierro in the bottom of thesixth to seal it.

"Beautiful win, beauti-ful day for a softball game,"Maple Shade coach Mary-beth Danowski said. "Wehad some key hits. Westruggled a little early ongetting on base and gettingthose runners across, butwe never backed down andwe were very confident.Everything seemed towork for us today."

Second-seeded MapleShade (11-7)meets Pitman,an 8-3 winner over Wood-bury, in Tuesday's Group 1semifinal,

Winning pitcher Lau-ren Routzahn had ninestrikeouts and three walks,hurling a two-hitter.

"My fielders were be-hind me and the batterswere helping me out a littleby swinging 'at pitches,"Routzahn said.

Danowski said Rout-zahn "did phenomenally"and catcher Rachel Rush-worth, who was 2-for-3with a run scored, called agood game.
