“Let Today Be the Start of Something New!”
FEBRUARY NEWS BRIEFS This year’s projects continue so let’s highlight a couple for February.
BLANKETS FOR MOTT CHILDREN’S
HOSPITAL Philoptochos along with GOYA will be making fleece blankets for the children at Mott. A workshop on February 11 will show everyone how to make the blankets. Please bring scissors, and if you don’t care to make a blanket, you can purchase 1-1/2 yards of fleece, and we will make them. Check JoAnn Fabrics’ website for store coupons. You can also make them at home and bring them in. Contact Tula or Vangie if you have questions.
SHOES FOR ST. ANDREW’S
We continue to collect men’s shoes for St. Andrew’s. There is a great deal of need in our area especially during the winter. Please bring men’s shoes to the bin in the hallway so that homeless men don’t go without proper foot covering. All sizes are welcome. Thank you!

WORDS OF WISDOM
I've learned that . . .
No matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow
You can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights
Regardless of your relationship with
your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life
Making a "living" is not the same thing as "making a life”
Life sometimes gives you a second chance
You shouldn't go through life with a
catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back
Whenever I decide something with an open heart I usually make the right decision
Even when I have pains, I don't have to
be one Every day you should reach out and
touch someone. People love a warm hug or just a friendly pat on the back
I still have a lot to learn
People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel
--Maya Angelou

THE WHISTLER by John Grisham
The latest electrifying novel by America’s #1 author takes you on a high-stakes thrill ride through the darkest corners of the Sunshine State
THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO by Alexandre Dumas

MEMBERSHIP TEA
What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon—at a Tea Party! And to add to the
event, it was “springtime in January”—sunny and mid-50’s. We had a great turnout, and
everyone enjoyed sipping tea from very elegant, dainty tea cups and savoring finger
sandwiches, delicate lemon cookies, mini-eclairs, and much, much more.
Our next generation Philoptochos—Alexa Webber, Evelyn and Theadora Yocum—had fun
right along with us!! Just look at their smiles!
