For my photography planning my
images needed to be stylish and
sophisticated, due to the high end
status of the magazine, I made sure
the images taken were high quality.
In the following
slides, you can see
how I have used the
rule of thirds in my
image as well as
making sure the
positioning is correct.
I've also included
some of the photos
that I used and the
one’s that I chose
To not use.
HEAD ROOM
This is the
image used
for my front
cover, I made
sure that I left
a lot of
headroom for
the image so
I could place
the magazine
title directly
above the
model.
MOVING SPACEThe space below the model in the
image allows him to move into this
space in a realistic situation. Giving the
picture more effect and creativity.
The space left
next to the
model can be
used to put text
next to the main
focus, therefore
combining
moving space
and text space
together.
This picture has
both moving
space and head
room for a
possible title and
article beneath.
RULE OF THIRDSIn my images I set up the camera to use The rule of
thirds. It’s useful tool for photographers, it helped me
improve the composition of my photographs.
Dividing my frame in to thirds both vertically and
horizontally helped me position important elements of my
photograph like centring the image and making sure that
the model is the focus of the image and stands out.
This particular image for my double page spread
was not centred, therefore I used the rule of thirds
to help with the composition and position the image
properly so text could flow around the outside of the
model.
TEXTUAL ANALYSIS
For my images I decided
to use a series of
techniques when
photographing the image
and editing.
To begin with I used a
pose shot with the
model, making sure the
position was correct and
the facial features
matches the image.
I decided to go for a
medium close up with this
image because you can
see his expressions as
well as his posture and
style.
This is image is shot in a
studio, I used not
background to make him
the focus of the shot. The
image represents what
the target audience
aspires to be for example
his clothing, hair and
attitude.
This image is a live shot, it’s taken while the artist is
performing and it gives a great expression of his
attitude and style as a whole. The integration of the
image shows how he is the focus and how his power
and dominance stands out amongst the rest.
The image is also centred and once again I
used the rule of thirds technique to position
the shot correctly.
Contact sheet – I took several images during the photo-shoot with Taylor, I needed a wide variety of images to
choose From, so I asked him to try out lot’s of different poses until I could pick several images for different
Elements of the magazine, as you can see from above in the left top corner are the images I decided to use for
the magazine.
