Welcome to Proctor

On behalf of the Proctor City Council and city administration, I am happy to welcome you to our

friendly and authentic community.

Rich in railroad history, Proctor offers the perfect blend of small town amenities while being only

minutes away from Spirit Mountain and the Twin Ports. With breathtaking views of Lake Superior,

this vibrant community hosts the Amsoil Snocross, South St. Louis County Fair, Proctor Speedway,

ALS Blizzard Tour, MS 150, and the Hoghead Festival celebrating our railroad history.

You can use our extensive trail system for biking, hiking, snowmobiling and ATV’s. Conveniently

located at Exit 249 on 1-35, Proctor offers lodging at our three great hotels and many dining and

family attractions.

Whether a visitor or a new Proctor citizen, our Community, Schools and City welcome you. We want

to make your time with us memorable, and we always welcome you back. Remember, “You Have A

Place In Proctor”.

Mayor Chad Ward

History of Proctor

Proudly celebrating over 125 years, the community of Proctor was created in 1892 when the Duluth,

Missabe and Northern Railroad was extended. The city was founded by Beriah Magoffin and

originally named Proctor Knott for a friend of the founder. The flat plateau in Proctor was the

perfect site for the railroad shops and storage yards. The Proctor railroad yard was once the largest

ore sorting railroad yard in the world.

For more information on our celebrated history, visit the Proctor Area Historical Museum in the

building near the Engine 225 Baldwin-Yellowstone train.

The City of Proctor made two land

purchases to promote our future business and recreational uses.

A 35-acre tract of land on Kirkus Street was purchased for potential business development.

40 acres in North Proctor that will be a part of the new Munger Spur Trail and developed for

recreational use.

Housing Development

Proctor’s vibrant economic development, excellent

school system and convenient location to area

attractions and amenities combine to make it one of the

most desirable and attractive real estate markets in the

region.

Proctor’s three housing developments are:

Hidden Ridge is a 24 lot development on the southeast corner of Lavaque and St. Louis River

Roads. With a varied topography, this beautiful area has lots ranging from 13,000 to over

37,000 square feet with water, sewer, blacktop and curbs.

Kingsbury Ridge is a 33 lot development in the southwest area of town. Kingsbury Ridge is

surrounded by wooded lots and newer home, with lots ranging from 14,000 to 35,000 square

feet.

Waterview Drive, a development by JGL Enterprises of Hermantown has six, one-acre lots and

one, seven acre lot on Waterview Drive, northwest of Boundary Avenue. Two of the lots have a

total of 16 townhouse units and are completely occupied. Another one acre site was

developed into a 30 unit assisted living complex.

Mountain Recreation Area, and the new St. Luke’s Sports and Event Center.

and Snowmobiles. We are proud of our trails for biking, snowmobiling, skiing, hiking, and ATV’s all

with easy access to the Munger Trail and the Superior Hiking Trail.
