Photoshop Filters

• Filters allow you to apply artistic effects to images– Make images look like they were sketched

with chalk, drawn with a graphic pen, have a texture, have a perspective added, etc.

Filter Basics

• Filters are accessed through the Filter menu.– When you select certain filters the Filter

Gallery opens up – Other filters open dialog boxes – Some don’t open anything

• Filters are applied to the current layer

• Some filters only work in RGB mode

Using the Filter Gallery

• The filter gallery allows you to:– Apply more than 1 filter to an image– Rearrange the order the filters are

applied• Different effects.

• Filter Gallery always applies the last used filters.

Using the Filter Gallery – Multiple Filters

• Filters have different effects depending on the order in which they are applied.– Like layers you change the order by

dragging the filter to where you want it to be.

• If you don’t want the same selections as the previous filter, do NOT select the top Filter>Filter Gallery– Select Filter>Filter Gallery…

Smart Filters

Vanishing Point Filter

• Vanishing Point Filter simplifies the task of editing images that are in perspective. – Allows additional elements to be added

to an object composed of flat planes.

• First the planes of the image need to be defined. – Then edits by painting, cloning, copying,

pasting, etc can then be applied

• The planes define the perspective
