Some people like to think about

their dreams. Other people act on

Donald (Class of 2001) is actively

pursuing his dreams and he dreams

BIG! After graduating in 2001 he

moved to Colorado Springs, Colo-

and his wife Beth, who is his busi-

ness manager, will be opening their

5th private practice clinic on June 1

are also actively pursuing their

dream to open an athletic training

members. Current plans for the

facility include in-door training

BIG!

What is especially impressive when you talk with Mac is

his emphasis on providing quality care for his clients,

creating a positive work environment for his staff, and

his commitment to give back to the community. He sup-

ports his staff to continue their education through enroll-

ing in transitional DPT programs and certification pro-

grams so that they can provide the best care to their pa-

tients. Mac himself is currently enrolled in a DPT pro-

gram and working on his manual therapy certification.

He has expanded his practice by bringing on PT partners

to assist them in opening their own private practice of-

fices within Falcon PT.

Mac and Beth give back to the community in a variety of

ways linked to their practice. They are proud sponsors of

the United States Olympic Judo and the USA Taekwondo

teams providing both financial and medical care for the

teams. They also support local events such as the Ameri-

can Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life event. This

represents only the “official” ways that Mac and Beth

give back to the community. Mac is passionate about the

whether it is a local athlete or a financially struggling PT

student. Mac has also been generous with the UM-Flint

give a talk to our DPT students next fall (when he is in

Michigan for the UM-OSU game) on how to start their

own private practices. We are looking forward to

port! Keep dreaming BIG Mac and

of following your

FACULTY UPDATES

The Physical Therapy De-

partment is going through

some big changes. Both

Trish Curatti and Shirley

Mapes left to return to clini-

cal practice this past year, we

wish them well in their new

endeavors. When they left

we combined their faculty

positions with 3 new faculty

positions to create 5 new fac-

ulty positions in 5 different

specialty areas to support

both the professional DPT

program and the post-

professional transitional DPT

and certificate programs. We

are excited to introduce to

you 3 new faculty members

who will begin over the

spring and summer months.

Jennifer Blackwood, PT,

MPT, GCS is a 2000 gradu-

ate of our program who re-

cently achieved American

Board of Physical Therapy

Specialists (ABPTS) certifi-

cation in geriatrics. She has a

rich background in geriatric

physical therapy clinical care.

She has prior teaching experi-

ence with DPT students at

Wayne State University and

the University of Toledo, and

with PTA students at Profes-

sional Skills Institute in

Toledo, Ohio. She also pro-

vided continuing education

training for AEGIS Therapies

in various areas of geriatric

care. Jen will be returning to

school for her doctorate as

soon as she gets settled into

her new faculty position.

James (Jamie) Creps, PT,

AMPT, OCS, CMPT has a

BS in PT from the University

of Toledo / Medical College

of Ohio and a MPT degree in

Orthopedic Physical Therapy

from Andrews University. He

will receive his DSc in Ortho-

pedic Physical Therapy from

Andrews University this Au-

gust. Jamie’s clinical back-

ground has focused primarily

in orthopedics with an empha-

sis on manual therapy. He

currently owns his own pri-

vate practice in Blissfield,

Michigan and will be using

this year to transition out of

his private practice and into

the academic world by teach-

ing part-time, primarily in our

orthopedic certification pro-

gram. His prior teaching ex-

perience includes instructing

PTA students at Owens Com-

munity College, serving as a

CI for DPT students, and pro-

viding in-service training to

physical therapy profession-

als. Jamie will join our fac-

ulty part-time in July and full-

time in 2010.

Carol Tuthill Daly, PT,

DPT, PCS received her Cer-

tificate in PT from the Uni-

versity of Iowa and her post-

professional DPT with a pedi-

atric concentration from

Drexel University. She has

been ABPTS certified in pedi-

atrics since 2002. Carol is

currently a supervisor and

physical therapist at St.

Luke’s Hospital in Cedar

Rapids, Iowa where she is

involved in patient care in the

NICU and oversees two pedi-

atric outpatient clinics. She

has been teaching pediatric

neuromuscular therapeutics to

DPT students at St. Ambrose

University since 2006 and has

been a CI for DPT students

for many years. Her research

experience and interest is with

therapeutic horseback riding.

Carol will join our faculty in

July and will pursue an aca-

demic doctorate once she gets

settled into her faculty posi-

tion.

versity so she could spend

more time with her family.

Best wishes to Kelly and Deb-

bie! We recently hired Stacie

Petriken as our new secre-

tary, Christina Wixson as an

Kelly Bouchard left to pursue

other career options as she

neared completion of her

master’s degree. Debbie Sey-

erle left to take a part-time

position elsewhere in the uni-

administrative assistant to

support the new post-

professional educational pro-

grams, and Jaime Bedford to

support clinical education.

Please welcome our new staff

as you interact with them!

Jane Eileen Murdock (Class of 1973) died of cancer on June 22, 2008. Jane Murdock’s legacy

was to have served the physical therapy profession as both a gifted clinician and skilled adminis-

trator. Throughout her professional career, Jane Murdock’s exceptional ability to relate to and

meet the needs of her patients exemplified the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)

core values of altruism, compassion/caring, excellence, and social responsibility. As an adminis-

trator she was able to mentor many young therapists and help them learn the values and satisfac-

tion from service to the larger public good. Further, Jane Murdock recognized the value of par-

ticipation at different levels within the Michigan Physical Therapy Association (MPTA) and

APTA and how it helped to advance the field of Physical Therapy. She took pleasure in assum-

ing different responsibilities within these associations. Finally, Jane Murdock recognized the

value of giving back to her academic home. To honor Jane, her husband Rick Murdock, set up a

scholarship to recognize students who have the potential of making a contribution to the profes-

sion of physical therapy and who are dedicated to serving in different voluntary capacities that

demonstrate commitment in advancement of physical therapy. Additional contributions to this

scholarship to honor Jane are welcome.
