1. a) Liquid water at 100oC is in equilibrium with water vapour at 1 atm pressure. If the enthalpy change associated with the vaporization of liquid water at 100oC is 40.60 kJ mol-1, determine G and S?

b) At 250C, 1 mol of an ideal gas is expanded isothermally from 2 to 20 liters. Calculate U, H, S, A and G. Do the values depend on whether the process is reversible or irreversible?

2. One mole of methane gas initially at 25oC (Ti) and 1 atm pressure is heated at constant pressure until the volume has doubled. The variation of the molar heat capacity with absolute temperature is given by

Cp,m = 22.3 + 4.8 x 10-3 T JK-1mol-1

Determine the final temperature Tf, H and U for the process.C
