Kinetic Theory of Gases

The kinetic theory

of gases is based

on the following

assumptions:

a. A gas consists

of

molecules,whic

h are always

moving

randomly and

freely in all

direction at high speeds.

 b. The movement of gas molecules comply with all of  Newton ‘s Second aw !f

"otion.

c. All collisions between gas molecules and the walls of a container are considered

fully elastic .Thus, momentum and kinetic energy immortali#ed

d. The force of attraction and repulsion between gas molecules can be neglected..

Collision Theory

The $ollision theory is based on the following assumptions:

a%The collision theory states that when suitable of the particle hits each other ,only a

certain percentage of the collisions cause any noticeable or significant changes.Thesesuccessful changes called successful collision.

b%The successful collision have enough activation energy to break the bonding of

 particles or form new bonding.

c%This result in the products of reaction.

d%The rate of reaction can be increased by increase the concentration of the reactant

particles and raising temperature.e%&hen the catalyst is involved in the collision between reactant molecules, less

chemical energy re'uired for the chemical change to take places and hence more

collisions have sufficient energy for reaction to occur. Therefore the rate of reaction

increase.

Atomic Theory

The Atomic theory

is based on the

following

assumptions:

a. Atomic theory

is a scientific

theory of the

nature of

matter,which

states thatmatter is

composed of

discrete unit

called atoms.

 b. Atom can neither be created nor destroyed.

c. All atoms of an elements are alike in mass and other properties, but the atoms of

of one element differ from all other element.(or e)amples, gold and silver have

different atomic masses and different properties.
