If so, what are they, where are they ? Students will examine the above look at the following; figures in the work and poses of figures, colour, backgrounds in the art work, gestures of the figures and treatment of subject matter i.e. mother and child theme. Understanding/Evaluating: (include illustrations): Students can describe and discuss Picasso's portrayal of poverty and human misery in the work from his blue period. Students will have gained an understanding, knowledge and are able to identifyrecognize Picasso's work from his blue period. Students will become skillful at comparing and contrasting the image of mother and child from his blue period to a similar images from his classical period using the same theme. Students have an understanding of how to read and analize the works - how Picasso used colour, composition, gestures and poses of figures, facial expressions effectively to portray the above theme. ICT: power point presentation of images of Picasso's Blue Period. Key words/phrases: Blue period, suffering, poverty, misery, monochromatic, colour, blue, mother and child theme and classical period. Teaching/Learning Strategies: Show the students a power point presentation of Picasso's images from the blue period. Laminate images from Picasso's blue period and classical period – Theme of images - mother and child and leave these up on an easel throughout the scheme/project. Have the student's work in groups - five to a group – give each of them an image from Picasso's blue period and have them analize it within their group - with my assistance and guidance and from our earlier example and discussion during the power point presentation. Get the students to swap their image with another group – anayze this image. Have both groups work together to compare their findings; are there any similarities in their responses – are there much differences in their approaches and analysis. Have them compare and contrast a work of art by Picasso with the same theme – i.e. mother and child from the Blue Period – with one from the Classical period or it could be from some other stage of his art career. Have a general brainstorming session regarding picasso – his work, his life put this up. Students sketch different images from Picasso's blue period. Bring in books on Picasso. Materials: Powerpoint presentation Books, laminated images. Paper – drawing materials
