Dear Parents & Carers I am delighted to tell you that Mrs Dempster gave birth to a baby girl last Friday, weighing 7lb 1oz, named Phoebe Rose. We wish her and her family all the very best. I would like to congratulate Charlie Nunn who completed the 5 mile section of the 14 mile walk “The Marsden March”, from The Royal Marsden Hospital at Chelsea to The Royal Marsden at Sutton, raising money for these cancer hospitals. This was in a team with family and friends in memory of a family friend treated at the hospital. Charlie’s sister, Harriet, who left Pickhurst in the summer, completed the full 14 miles. So far their team has raised just under £3,000. This was a fantastic achievement for Charlie, especially having ran the cross country at Crystal Palace just the day before, making a huge effort for a very worthy cause. Well done Charlie, we are really proud of both you and Harriet. Also, Ella Webb (6S) won a bronze medal with Team Bromley in the London Youth Games girls’ cricket finals. The mayor of Bromley was there to support them. Well done Ella, a great achievement and Pickhurst are very proud of you. Our recent NSPCC fundraiser raised a whopping £5,258.27! This is a really fantastic amount and we are very grateful to your children for their efforts in helping to achieve this. A reminder that tomorrow, Friday 18th March, is Sports Relief day. Children may wear sportswear to school in exchange for a £1 donation. Thank you for your support. We are the Hockey Champions!

P A G E 2

The hockey team represented Bromley at the London Youth Games last Thursday. Already champions of

Bromley, Pickhurst were up against the best schools from each of the 33 boroughs of London. Pickhurst

came top of the first group of four, overcoming Camden, Enfield and Newham, to progress to the next

stage where we were up against Lambeth, Havering and Brent. We progressed from this group to set up

the quarter final against Richmond, which we won on penalties. The semi-final saw us play Havering

where we convincingly won 4-0.

This put us in the final against Hillingdon and one game away from becoming champions of London. The

final score was 4-0 to us which meant out of over 1,000 schools in London we are the champions!

I am so proud of the team … Clay W, Robert N, Elliott D, Jack M, Ellen J, Jenna H, Elizabeth E, Abbie D,

Kaya T, Gift A and Caleb B … this is a fantastic achievement!

WE Day at Wembley

A group of people from WE Day club went to Wembley on 9th March. Our experience was amazing. We have learnt that the money we raised has changed people’s lives. You could be the next man or woman to change the world. The speeches were very touching and the music was very good. Every act had a sad story and every act had a story of triumph. Going to Wembley has really helped us understand the true meaning of changing the world. The WE Day club have many campaign ideas for the next month. We learnt about what WE Day could do for you, if you join. Lots of schools fundraised and helped us raise money for local communities and global countries. Written by Amelia Russell 4R

Activities this week for form 3L were making seed sticks for the birds. This involved mixing bird seed and lard together and moulding the mixture around a stick or branch ... very messy, but everyone enjoyed it!

Easter Cake Sale Monday 21st March

Emilia P, Charlotte T, Mia J, Aimee R and Ellen E (Y6) will be holding an Easter themed cake sale on Monday 21st March. It will be held after school on the playground outside the Year 5 block. They are holding the cake sale to raise money for students from Langley Park Girls’ School (including Emilia's sister) who are going to Cambodia and Vietnam to spend time with less fortunate communities to try and improve their lifestyle and their education. If anyone would like to take part in baking some Easter themed cakes over the weekend, they would be really appreciated. They should be brought to school on Monday in a labelled container and the cakes will be collected from your child's classroom. Most importantly, we look forward to seeing lots of you at the cake sale to help raise money for this important cause. Thank you for your support.

We have had two pairs of Specsavers glasses and a pair of tap shoes (pictured) handed in at the school office. If you are missing these, please visit the office to see if they are your’s. Any items of un-named lost property will be disposed of at the end of this term (next Thursday) so please ensure that you check the lost property box as soon as possible.

Diner of the Week:

w/c 7th March: Mae McCarthy (5B) - well done Mae

Message from the Head Boy & Head Girl

On Thursday 10th March Y5 and Y6 had an incredible drama group come in to perform a play telling us all about the mobile phone. It was fantastic! On Friday (tomorrow) it is Sport Relief day and we all have to wear sporty clothes. We will be running laps around the school! Well done to all those who brought in a donation for the NSPCC. We raised an amazing £5,258.27! Youssef Maher Atwa (Head Boy) & Thea Van Den Belt (Head Girl)

Visit from Rose Bruford Theatre School

Last week, the upper school had a visit from students from Rose Bruford Theatre school (alongside their director and stage manager) to share their production: “Watson, Come Here, I Want to See You”. This play, which they devised collaboratively, was all about the invention of the telephone. It explored how 'virtual' communication has advanced over time, from sending telegraphs via a telegram to now sending Whatsapp messages on an iPhone. The talented cast used imagination and sound creatively to take us on this journey, which began in the 1800's right up to the present day! They even managed to include a bit of Doctor Who into their performance - much to the delight of the crowd! After the show, Years 5 and 6 were given the opportunity to ask the cast and crew any questions they liked. Their questions showed just how engaged they were throughout the performance. I would like to say a special thanks to Izzy's Mum, Kiaran, who helped Pickhurst secure this special performance for us. Staff and pupils alike really enjoyed it.
