Pilgrimages are important for everyone, whether religious or non religious. Firstly, if you are religious you can develop a closer relationship with God and if you aren’t, with the nature. Secondly, its easier to understand our problems and find the solutions when you do it. Thirdly, with this activity people usually experiment a personal transformation. A predominant reason why religious people go on pilgrimages is to get a stronger and closer vision of their God. In the case of non religious people, they usually get a new vision of the nature and they become aware with the environmental problems. This is normal when you realize the beauty of the nature. When you go on it you see a lot of different landscapes and cities or villages, just think in all the different places between France and Santiago (for the Camino de Santiago). A lot of people seek guidance for specifics situations when they go on a pilgrimage. When you leave your normal day a day, your routine, its easier to listen and receive guidance from other people or even God if you are religious. Realize that, for example, if you do the Camino de Santiago youre going to have a lot of time, many days, to think and meditate. Regardless of the original reason behind a pilgrimage, the personal transformation people experiment is often a positive effect. Pilgrimages offer rest and renewal that can lead to a personal discovery. The old is left (behind) and you can see or think in new visions of the future. For religious people, Gods forgiveness and guidance can be a powerful catalyst for change the person. In conclusion, there are many reasons why people should go on a pilgrimage at least once in their life. The personal satisfaction, find different visions of the world we haven’t seen before and experiment a personal transformation are just a few benefits.
