    It is a pleasure to once again serve as President of RAIP. I hope to involve everyone on acommittee and have a voice in programs, social events and special projects. I hope you all willattend the meeting on Tuesday, September 10 th when Teresa Fannin teach our I-Can Class onInsurance Fraud. It is a 30-minute presentation. A short business meeting will follow.

    A big thank you to our committee chairs who have agreed to serve RAIP this year. Pam Grimes,Safety; Katy Willett, Public Relations; Teresa Fannin, Education; and Debbie Pass-Soles,Employment. And also Janet Davis for stepping up to prepare the Pinecone for us!

    Congratulations again to our award winners at our Associates Night Banquet. What a nice time weall had. Thanks to all who attended the August Picnic! Wasnt it fun? Debbie did such a great jobwith the fun games and the food was delicious as always! Lets cultivate our garden withnetworking, education and great programs!

    MINUTES OF THERALEIGH ASSOCIATION OF INSURANCE PROFESSIONALS

    July 16, 2013

    The meeting was called to order by President Jeanne Hess at 6PM. This months meeting held at the OliveGarden located on Walnut St, Cary, NC.Members present: President Jeanne Hess, Teresa Fannin, Beth Blackwell, Wanda Manning, Debbie PassSoles, Pam Grimes, Tammy Ramsdell, Janet Davis, Katy Willett and Barb Hutchinson.The business meeting was called to order by President Jeanne Hess at 6:28PM. We did not have a guestspeaker at this months meeting as this was our general planning meeting for the year 2013/2014. Themajority of our discussion was spent brainstorming for possible guest speakers, fundraisers and on Nationaland State issues.

We would then encourage the class participantsto remain for our RAIP monthly meeting. This might be a great opportunity to introduce our organization tointerested insurance professionals.

    Membership Jeanne Hess reported that our current member count at 15 members.From our State President: NCAIP is trying something new for the coming year which will be a teleconferenceeach month with membership committee chair (Beth Blackwell) to discuss/brainstorm how to increase ourmembership. Each membership chair from each state organization should plan on conferencing into this phonecall for an active discussion!NEW BUSINESSVote was taken on minutes from last meeting Wanda move to accept and Beth second. Vote passed.Fundraisers discussion centered on our Pecan drive and Seasonal Baskets. We will present two baskets forthe next fundraiser with the themes of Halloween and Fall. We will raffle off these baskets at our Oct meeting.

    Katy needs ideas of what we want to do this year: collecting for State Convention back packs: schoolsupplies??? RADA knife order was placed by Janet Davis.

    The NCAIP Facebook Page is the fastest and most economical way to get news and valuable career enriching informationto our members and prospects (the NCAIP website can only be updated once a month without incurring additional charges

    AND the website has limited space as well). I dont post constantly usually just once a day 3-4 days a week.

    NCAIP Nominating Committee Message from Geraldine Plott & Judie Hancock

    Our NCAIP Nominating Chairman, Judie Hancock is still looking for candidate applications for our 2014Executive Board.

    Our RVP, Brenda Lawhorn's theme this year is "Take Ownership of Your Membership".     2013-2014 NCAIP Public Relations Project Message from Todd Jones

    Masonic Home for Children in Oxford NC is our State project for 2013 - 2014.

    Their Purpose:MHCO exists for one purpose to help children who need a stable, caring and loving home. We do not

    replace a family we provide. We teach, guide, nurture, and share, focusing on life both at and after MHCO,

    so we can help a child determine his or her own path for the future. Our state licensed and nationally accreditedhome uses a family-living model that provides our children with individual living spaces, essentials needed fordaily living, support if they have special needs, and a promise for full development and learning, from infant toyoung adulthood.

    Their Mission:The Masonic Home for Children assists families in need by providing a home-like setting together withcommunity based programs and services for children to enhance its stable, supportive and nurturing livingenvironment in order for children to reunite with their families or achieve independence.

    You can gain valuable networking opportunities and experience the workings of theconvention through your involvement at the Region II convention.

    Note Delegates CANNOT serve on Tellers, Credentials or TimekeepersCommittees.

    Committee Duties

    Registration Distribute attendee packets and ribbons. Distribute exhibitorpackets.

    Tellers Count votes at each general session either by paper ballots orstanding head count of

    delegates . Must be present at ALL business meetings.

    Credentials Register delegates and alternates and make sure delegates andalternates are seated

    in the appropriate areas during all meetings.

    CWC Facilitate the speak-off and assist with the prep meeting onsite.

    Pages Deliver messages and assist as needed with handouts etc.before and during business

    meetings.

    Timekeepers Must be present at ALL business meetings, the DelegatesBriefing, Meet the

    Candidates and CWC Speak-off to time the speakers.

    Dont pay for job opportunities

    Job search websites can be a great tool for finding your next job. But not every opportunity posted turns out to

    be legitimate.

    Some North Carolina job seekers recently found this out when they responded to a posting for what looked like

    security guard work but turned out to be a scam. People who responded to the post were asked to pay more

    than $100 upfront for training by purchasing a reloadable debit card. Victims were also asked to provide

    personal information including their banking account number, full name and date of birth. Consumers who

    bought the debit card and provided the card number to the scammers never got the promised training or job.

    To protect yourself when looking for jobs online:

    Be skeptical if youre asked for money upfront. Dont agree to pay upfront for lists of potential jobs

    or to apply for a job. If youre offered training or education, check it out thoroughly before you agree topay any money, and consider reputable local alternatives, such as your Community College, first.

    Guard your personal information. Job scammers may ask for your Social Security Number, saying

    they need it to run a background check. Dont provide your SSN to a potential employer until or unless

    youve checked out the company thoroughly and know the job is legitimate. Never agree to email your

    SSN or other personal financial information. Email is not a secure way to share this information.

    If you spot a possible job scam, report it to us at 1-877-5-NO-SCAM orfile a consumer complaint onlineatncdoj.gov.

    North Carolina Association of Insurance Professionals

    2013/2014 Proposed Bylaws Changes

    Current:Article V - Officers

    Section 1. The officers of the state association shall be President, President-Elect, VicePresident, Secretary, Treasurer and Immediate Past President.

    A. All officers must be active members of the state association.

    B. All officers must have the endorsement of their local association.

    Recommended:Article V - Officers

    C. Officers must reside in or be employed in the state of North Carolina.

    Reason:

    It is the intention of NCAIP to have their leadership involved in the state association and believe it is in the bestinterest of their officers to be a resident or be employed in North Carolina in order to be active participants.

    Current:Article IV Members

    A. Student. Student membership is open to persons who are full time studentsenrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per term in a college oruniversity. Student members who belong to a local association are entitled tomake recommendations and to hold both elective and appointive office at alllevels of the association. Student members not belonging to a local association

    shall be known as Student Members-at-Large and shall not be entitled tovote or to hold elective or appointive office in the association.

    Recommended:

    2013/2014 Proposed Standing Rule Changes

    Current:

    14. NCAIP shall pay the registration, travel (coach), lodging and meals for the NCAIP CWC contestant toattend the Region II conference. The amount shall not exceed the amount budgeted annually.

    Recommended:

    14. NCAIP shall pay the registration, travel (coach), lodging and meals for the NCAIP CommunicationsWinner to attend the Region II conference, if the funds are not provided by a sponsor. The amount shallnot exceed the amount budgeted annually.

    Reason:

    Since IAIP no longer recognizes CWC at the state level, we recommend changing the name of this event/awardfor NCAIP. At this time NCAIP has a sponsor who provides funding for the winner to attend and wanted thisinformation included.

    Criteria for these awards and submission format shall be set by the Board ofDirectors. Recipients of Awards 1-6 will receive a plaque. Associations chosento receive the NCAIP Excellence Award will receive a certificate.

    All applicants may submit applications to Regional for consideration of awards at the Regional level.

    Reason:

    All NCAIP members who are eligible for an award at the regional level should apply since awards given at thestate level are no longer recognized by IAIP.
