A school-parent compact is a written agreement between school staff and families that provides an opportunity to strengthen partnerships within the school community. It explains how families and schools can work together to help students reach high academic standards.

Information

Parents must provide telephone numbers where they or adult

relatives may be reached in the event of their child’s illness or

injury. Because emergencies may arise, please keep addresses

and telephone numbers current in the office.

Arrival Procedures7:40 – 8:15

▪ Car Riders must drive around the softball field to join the drop off line.

▪ Always pull to the next available cone.

▪ Students are not released from car line until 7:40.

▪ Respect the directions of the teachers on duty.

▪ Students directly move to their homeroom teacher’s room.

▪ Students ride the same bus as last year, unless new address. The times might be slightly different. Check with transportation at Sylacauga Board of Education.

▪ Buses drop off in the front drive.

▪ Morning visitors should not park in the bus lane.

▪ Students are not released from buses until 7:40.

▪ Students will move directly to the cafeteria or small gym.

Dismissal Procedures3:15 – 3:45

▪ Car Riders must drive around the softball field to join the car line.

▪ Car riders will not be dismissed from the front of the school. Due to dismissal traffic, check outs should not occur after 2:50.

▪ Students sit quietly in assigned area facing the car line.

▪ Respect the directions of the teachers on duty.

▪ Parents may not park and walk to sidewalk to pick up students.

▪ Students must be picked up by 3:45.

▪ Buses pick up from the front of the school.

▪ Students should not ride a different bus without a note from a parent with the address of the bus stop. This note must be approved in the office. You will not be allowed to ride the bus without this information.

▪ Parents should not remove students from the bus line. Contact the school for emergency.

▪ Parents and students on campus at dismissal time should not walk between buses.

▪ Cars cannot pass buses in the bus lane. This is a violation of the law.

Car tags must be visible. Tags will be issued to students at the beginning of the

school year. If a driver does not have a tag, he/she must park in the back parking

lot, go to the office and show proper I. D. The child may then be personally escorted

to the vehicle by the driver.

▪ Attendance is critical for success in school!

▪ A written excuse is required for each absence within three days of

returning to school. (full name, date of absence, reason, contact

information, signature)

▪ Parents receive attendance letters for 1 unexcused absence and 3

unexcused absences. After five unexcused absences, parents will

be referred to Early Warning.

▪ Parents must update addresses if there is a change.

Grading Scale

Grading Scale:

▪ Grade averages will be sent home at mid-term and at the end of each

nine-weeks.

▪ Progress reports / report cards will be sent home in Student Data Portfolios.

▪ Parents will receive Chalkable Login Information to access student grades.

▪ Student work is sent home weekly in Red Take Home Folders.

Appropriate School Dress

All apparel worn by students should contribute to a neat, clean, well-groomed appearance. The following

items are inappropriate for school and will be considered in violation of the dress code:

▪ All pants should be worn at the waistline with absolutely NO “slacking”. Pants must be the appropriate size

for the student both in the waist and inseam. Pants that are unhemmed, have holes, rips or cuts that show

skin are not considered appropriate for school. If pants have belt loops, a belt must be worn.

▪ Blouses, tops or shirts which expose the back, front, midriff are not allowed. This includes off the shoulder

tops, halter tops, or tops and dresses with spaghetti straps. All students should wear shirts tucked into pants.

T-shirts should be tucked into pants.

▪ Long coats, jackets, and trench coats are not allowed.

▪ ALL students may wear shorts; however, all shorts must not exceed 4” above the knee. ALL skirts and dresses

must not exceed 4” above the knee. This includes any slit the clothing may have.

▪ Leggings to include jeggings, yoga pants, fitted knit pants are allowed to be worn in conjunction with skirts or

dresses of the appropriate length but absolutely cannot be worn alone.

▪ Hats, caps, hoodies, do rags or other headgear inside the building. (This includes novelty, headbands,

armbands, bandannas, and wrist bands).

▪ Hair that is unkempt, unclean, impairs vision, or hair that is unnatural or unusual in color is not allowed. Hair

with more than a single shaven part, shaven head patterns i.e. - numbers, names, symbols, designs,

Mohawks, etc. is not allowed.

▪ Heavy chains and medallions or other items which could be suggestive, could be used as weapons, or could be

offensive to others. Any gang related items such as gang insignias, slogans, emblems, patches, jewelry, or

tattoos are not allowed.

▪ Cleated or spiked shoes; shoes which are unlaced or untied, shoes with wheels are not allowed.

▪ All real or fake fingernails that are gaudy in nature.

▪ Glasses/Sunglasses without a prescription cannot be worn at school.

Digital by DesignStudent

ChromebookA Chromebook is assigned to each student to use at school. If your student is participating in the blended/virtual option they may take their Chromebook home.

A Digital by Design contract must be signed and returned.

Medication

Parent (guardian) and/or physician must complete a School

Medication Prescriber/Parent Authorization Form to be filed with

the student’s health record.

No child should ever keep any type of medicine with him/her

during the school day. This includes cough drops and eye drops.
