Prestonpans Infant School Newsletter
September 2013
144 dads/stepdads/ granddads
and their children enjoyed a
great morning of fun activities
on Saturday morning and EVE-
RYONE said they wanted more
of this. Thanks for coming eve-
ryone.
It’s time to choose a new Parent Council and we would
LOVE to have some new Nursery and new P1 parents
and carers to join us. We meet this week on Thursday
night (sometimes Wed nights) from 6.30—8.30pm.
We believe that parents and carers should have a say
in how the school works and improves. Please think
about joining us.
From 2014, the Scottish Government is increasing nursery hours
to 600 hours per year. Come to a meeting in Port Seton Com-
munity Centre on Tuesday 3.9.13 from 6.30—8.30pm to dis-
cuss how we do this. Ms Laing hopes that many Prestonpans In-
fant parents and carers will come along to help the discussion..
There are still places available on this course with Alison Kettell
and Sheila Laing on Thursdays from 12.45—2.45pm. Creche avail-
able. Let Alison, Sheila or the office know if you want to come
along.
Please call us by 9.30am if your child is absent
from school. East Lothian Council policy to keep
children safe is that if we haven’t heard from you by 9.30am, we
will phone you and/or your emergency contact numbers. If we
can’t find out your child is safe, we then phone the Social Work
team who will try to contact you. If you still cant’ be contacted,
they will ask the police to attend your house to check your child is
safe. Stop all that happening by phoning us on 01875 810028.
Thank you.
Our P3s have been asked to sign Toun
O’ Prestonpans and other songs at Trad O’
Tyne and at the Scottish Parliament this
week. They are also singing on Saturday
7.9.13 at 1pm in Chalmers Memorial Church as
part of the Port Seton 200th anniversary Box
Meeting. This is part of the Box Meeting Pa-
rade which starts in Port Seton Harbour at
10.30am and ends there at 4.30pm when our
friend, the Reaper Sailing Ship will set sail. All welcome. More
details of the event are available from the School Office.
We have a number of temporary staff in the School Office help-
ing just now. Mrs Patterson is on the front desk and is kindly
helping you all with enquiries. Thank you for your patience when
she’s unsure. She will always get back to you with answers to your
queries. We are interviewing for a teacher to teach P2/10 on
Tues/Wed to allow Mrs McBirnie to fulfil her DHT responsibili-
ties and P!/6 on Thursday to let Mr Wilson complete his studies
and preparation.
