Eventing: One of the Olympic equestrian sports is Eventing. It consists of three separate phases over a 3 day period: dressage, cross country jumping, and stadium jumping. Dressage is a set test of patterns that the horse and rider have to execute correctly and calmly. Cross country jumping is the most exciting part! Each team jumps high, solid jumps while gallop-ing over varied terrain. Stadium jumping proves that the team can still negotiate high, airy jumps without a knockdown. This sport is considered a very dan-gerous and difficult competition suitable only for the very skilled rider and athletic, bold horse.

In spring, it is especially important to continue grooming and picking out your horse’s feet. Spring brings mud and faster hoof growth which could result in harmful infections like thrush and over-growth that can cause lameness.
Consistent farrier care every 5 to 8 weeks will help keep your horse’s hooves healthy and of the right length. There are many places online that show what a correctly trimmed or shod hoof should look like.

The biscuits, which are made by working Parmesan into the dough, bake atop the vegetable soup.
Ingredients: For the Filling• 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil• 3 leeks, white and pale-green parts only, quar-tered lengthwise, thinly sliced crosswise, and rinsed well• 4 garlic cloves, minced• 1 pound butternut squash, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes (4 cups)• 1 can (19 ounces) cannellini beans, drained• 1 can (15 ounces) peeled whole tomatoes• 1 bunch Tuscan kale, chopped• 3 cups chicken stock or water• 1 rosemary sprig
• 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese (1/2 ounce), plus 1 Parmesan cheese rind (about 3 inches)• Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
For the Topping• 2 cups all-purpose flour• 2 teaspoons baking powder• Coarse salt• 1 stick cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces• 1 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese (2 ounces)• 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, plus more for brushing
Directions:1 - Make the filling: Heat oil in a large Dutch
oven over medium heat. Cook leeks and garlic un-til tender, about 5 minutes. Add butternut squash, beans, tomatoes with juice, kale, stock, rosemary, and Parmesan rind. Bring to a gentle simmer. Cook, covered, until vegetables are just tender, about 20 minutes. Stir in cheese, and season with salt and pepper. Let cool.
2 - Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Make the top-ping: Whisk together flour, baking powder, and 1 teaspoon salt in a medium bowl. Cut in butter
using a pastry cutter or rub in with your fin-gers until small clumps form. Stir in cheese. Add cream, and stir with a fork until a sticky dough forms. Divide into 8 balls (about 1/2 cup each).
3 - Transfer filling to an 11-by-13-inch (10-cup) baking dish. Top with dough balls, and brush with cream. Bake until topping is golden and filling is bubbling, about 55 minutes. If biscuits darken too quickly, tent with foil.

Pocahontas, daughter of the chief of the Powhatan Indian confedera-cy, marries English tobacco planter John Rolfe in Jamestown, Virginia. The marriage ensured peace be-tween the Jamestown settlers and the Powhatan Indians for several years.
In May 1607, about 100 English colonists settled along the James River in Virginia to found James-town, the first permanent English settlement in America. The settlers fared badly because of famine, dis-ease, and Indian attacks, but were aided by 27-year-old English adven-turer John Smith, who directed sur-vival efforts and mapped the area. While exploring the Chickahomi-ny River in December 1607, Smith and two colonists were captured by Powhatan warriors. At the time, the Powhatan confederacy consisted of around 30 Tidewater-area tribes led by Chief Wahunsonacock, known as Chief Powhatan to the English. Smith’s companions were killed, but he was spared and released, (ac-cording to a 1624 account by Smith) because of the dramatic intercession of Pocahontas, Chief Powhatan’s 13-year-old daughter. Her real name was Matoaka, and Pocahontas was a pet name that has been translated variously as “playful one” and “my favorite daughter.”
In 1608, Smith became president of the Jamestown colony, but the settlement continued to suffer. An accidental fire destroyed much of the town, and hunger, disease, and Indian attacks continued. During this time, Pocahontas often came to Jamestown as an emissary of her father, sometimes bearing gifts of food to help the hard-pressed set-tlers. She befriended the settlers and became acquainted with En-glish ways. In 1609, Smith was in-jured from a fire in his gunpowder bag and was forced to return to En-gland.
After Smith’s departure, rela-tions with the Powhatan deterio-rated and many settlers died from famine and disease in the winter of 1609-10. Jamestown was about to be abandoned by its inhabitants when Baron De La Warr (also known as
Delaware) arrived in June 1610 with new supplies and rebuilt the settlement–the Delaware River and the colony of Delaware were later named after him. John Rolfe also ar-rived in Jamestown in 1610 and two years later cultivated the first to-bacco there, introducing a success-ful source of livelihood that would have far-reaching importance for Virginia.
In the spring of 1613, English Cap-tain Samuel Argall took Pocahontas hostage, hoping to use her to nego-tiate a permanent peace with her fa-ther. Brought to Jamestown, she was put under the custody of Sir Thomas Gates, the marshal of Virginia. Gates treated her as a guest rather than a prisoner and encouraged her to learn English customs. She convert-ed to Christianity and was baptized Lady Rebecca. Powhatan eventually agreed to the terms for her release, but by then she had fallen in love with John Rolfe, who was about 10 years her senior. On April 5, 1614, Pocahontas and John Rolfe married with the blessing of Chief Powhatan and the governor of Virginia.
Their marriage brought a peace between the English colonists and the Powhatans, and in 1615 Poca-hontas gave birth to their first child, Thomas. In 1616, the couple sailed to England. The so-called Indian Princess proved popular with the English gentry, and she was present-ed at the court of King James I. In March 1617, Pocahontas and Rolfe prepared to sail back to Virginia. However, the day before they were to leave, Pocahontas died, probably of smallpox, and was buried at the parish church of St. George in Gra-vesend, England.
John Rolfe returned to Virginia and was killed in an Indian massa-cre in 1622. After an education in England, their son Thomas Rolfe returned to Virginia and became a prominent citizen. John Smith re-turned to the New World in 1614 to explore the New England coast. On another voyage of exploration in 1614, he was captured by pirates but escaped after three months of cap-tivity. He then returned to England, where he died in 1631.

A husband and wife were driving through Tennessee. As they approached Etowah, they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town. They argued back and forth, then they stopped for lunch. At the counter,
the husband asked the waitress, “Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us? Would you please pronounce where we are very slowly?” She leaned over the counter and said, “Burrr-gerrr Kiiing.”
