! Before detaching, be sure to remove the AUXcable from the front panel. Otherwise, thisunit, connected device or vehicle interior maybe damaged.

Removing the front panel1 Press DETACH to release the frontpanel.

2 Grab the front panel and remove.

3 Put the front panel into the providedprotective case for safe keeping.

Attaching the front panel1 Slide the front panel to the left until itclicks.Front panel and the head unit are jointed onthe left side. Make sure that the front panelhas been jointed to the head unit.

2 Press the right side of the front paneluntil it is firmly seated.# If you cant attach the front panel to the headunit successfully, try again. Front panel may bedamaged if you attach the front panel forcedly.

Use and care of the remotecontrolInstalling the batterySlide the tray on the back of the remote con-trol out and insert the battery with the plus (+)and minus () poles aligned properly.

WARNINGKeep the battery out of the reach of children.Should the battery be swallowed, consult a doc-tor immediately.

CAUTION! Use one CR2025 (3V) lithium battery.! Remove the battery if the remote control is not

used for a month or longer.! There is a danger of explosion if the battery is

incorrectly replaced. Replace only with thesame or equivalent type.

! Do not handle the battery with metallic tools.! Do not store the battery with metallic objects.! If the battery leaks, wipe the remote control

completely clean and install a new battery.! When disposing of used batteries, comply

with governmental regulations or environmen-tal public institutions rules that apply in yourcountry/area.

Using the remote controlPoint the remote control in the direction of thefront panel to operate.

Important

! Do not store the remote control in high tem-peratures or direct sunlight.

! The remote control may not function properlyin direct sunlight.

! Do not let the remote control fall onto thefloor, where it may become jammed under thebrake or accelerator pedal.

! In the following cases, the sound source willnot change. When there is no disc in the unit. When AUX (auxiliary input) is set to off

(refer to page 12).! AUX is set to on by default. Turn off the AUX

! When this units blue/white lead is connectedto the vehicles auto-antenna relay controlterminal, the vehicles antenna extends whenthis units source is turned on. To retract theantenna, turn the source off.

TunerListening to the radio

Important

If you are using this unit in North, Central orSouth America, reset the AM tuning step (seeSetting the AM tuning step on page 11).

1 Press SOURCE to select the tuner.

2 Press BAND to select a band.Press BAND until the desired band (F1, F2, F3for FM or AM) is displayed.

3 To perform manual tuning, briefly pressc or d.

4 To perform seek tuning, press and holdc or d for about one second and release.The tuner will scan the frequencies until abroadcast strong enough for good reception isfound.# You can cancel seek tuning by briefly pressingc or d.# While pressing and holdingc or d, you canskip stations. Seek tuning starts as soon as youreleasec or d.

Storing and recalling broadcastfrequencies% When you find a frequency that youwant to store in memory, press one of pre-set tuning buttons 1 to 6 and hold until thepreset number stops flashing.Memorized radio station frequency can be re-called by pressing the preset tuning button.# Up to 18 FM stations, six for each of the threeFM bands, and six AM stations can be stored inmemory.# Press a or b to recall radio station frequen-cies.

Tuning in strong signalsLocal seek tuning lets you tune in only thoseradio stations with sufficiently strong signalsfor good reception.

1 Press FUNCTION to select LOCAL.

2 Pressa or b to turn local seek tuningon or off.

3 Pressc or d to set the sensitivity.FM: LOCAL 1LOCAL 2LOCAL 3LOCAL 4AM: LOCAL 1LOCAL 2The LOCAL 4 setting allows reception of onlythe strongest stations, while lower settings letyou receive progressively weaker stations.

Storing the strongest broadcastfrequenciesBSM (best stations memory) lets you automa-tically store the six strongest broadcast fre-quencies under preset tuning buttons 1 to 6.Once stored you can tune in to those frequen-cies with the touch of button.! Storing broadcast frequencies with BSM

may replace broadcast frequencies youhave saved using buttons 1 to 6.

1 Press FUNCTION to select BSM.

2 Pressa to turn BSM on.The six strongest broadcast frequencies arestored in the order of their signal strength.# To cancel the storage process, press b.

Built-in PlayerPlaying a disc1 Insert a CD (CD-ROM) into the disc load-ing slot.Playback will automatically start.# Be sure to turn up the label side of a disc.# After a CD (CD-ROM) has been inserted, pressSOURCE to select the built-in CD player.

# You can eject a CD (CD-ROM) by pressingEJECT.

2 Pressa or b to select a folder whenplaying a compressed audio.# You cannot select a folder that does not havea compressed audio file recorded in it.# To return to folder 01 (ROOT), press and holdBAND. However, if folder 01 (ROOT) contains nofiles, playback commences with folder 02.

3 To perform fast forward or reverse,press and hold c or d.# If you select ROUGH, pressing and holding cor d enables you to search every 10 tracks in thecurrent disc (folder). (Refer to Searching every 10tracks in the current disc or folder on the nextpage.)

4 To skip back or forward to anothertrack, pressc or d.

Notes

! Read the precautions for discs and player onpage 17.

! If an error message such as ERROR-11 is dis-played, refer to Error messages on page 17.

! There is sometimes a delay between startingup disc playback and the sound being issued.When being read, FRMTREAD is displayed.

! When playing CD-EXTRA or MIXED-MODECDs, compressed audio and CD-DA can beswitched by pressing BAND.

! If you have switched between compressedaudio and CD-DA, playback starts at the firsttrack on the disc.

! The built-in CD player can play back com-pressed audio recorded on CD-ROM. (Pleasesee the following section for files that can beplayed back. Refer to page 18.)

! When playing back VBR (variable bit rate) re-corded files, elapsed play time may not be dis-played correctly.

! When playing compressed audio, there is nosound on fast forward or reverse.

Repeating playRepeat play plays the same track/folder withinthe selected repeat play range.

1 Press FUNCTION to select RPT.

2 Pressc or d to select the repeat range.DSC Repeat all tracksTRK Repeat the current trackFLD Repeat the current folder# If you select another folder during repeat play,the repeat play range changes to disc repeat.# When playing CD, performing track search orfast forward/reverse cancels the repeat play auto-matically.# When playing compressed audio, performingtrack search or fast forward/reverse during TRK(track repeat) changes the repeat play range tofolder repeat.# When FLD (folder repeat) is selected, it is notpossible to play back a subfolder of that folder.# To return to the normal display, press BAND.

Playing tracks in random orderTracks in a selected repeat range are played inrandom order.

1 Select the repeat range.Refer to Repeating play on this page.

2 Press FUNCTION to select RDM.

3 Pressa or b to turn random play on oroff.When random play is on, RDM appears in thedisplay.If you turn random play on during folder re-peat, FRDM appears in the display.# To return to the normal display, press BAND.

Scanning tracks or foldersScan play searches the song within the se-lected repeat range.

1 Select the repeat range.Refer to Repeating play on this page.

2 Press FUNCTION to select SCAN.

3 Pressa to turn scan play on.SCAN appears in the display. The first 10 sec-onds of each track is played.# If you turn scan play on during FLD, FSCN ap-pears in the display.

4 When you find the desired track pressb to turn scan play off.# If the display has automatically returned tothe playback display, select SCAN again by press-ing FUNCTION.# After scanning of a disc (folder) is finished,normal playback of the tracks begins.

Pausing disc playbackPause lets you temporarily stop playback ofthe disc.

1 Press FUNCTION to select PAUSE.

2 Pressa or b to turn pause on or off.# To return to the normal display, press BAND.

Using compression and BMXUsing the COMP (compression) and BMXfunctions let you adjust the sound playbackquality of this unit.

1 Press FUNCTION to select COMP OFF.

2 Pressa or b to select your favorite set-ting.COMP OFFCOMP 1COMP 2COMP OFFBMX 1BMX 2# To return to the normal display, press BAND.

Searching every 10 tracks in thecurrent disc or folderYou can switch the search method betweenfast forward/reverse and searching every 10tracks. Selecting ROUGH enables you tosearch every 10 tracks.

1 Press FUNCTION to select FF/REV.# If the search method ROUGH has been pre-viously selected, ROUGH will be displayed.

2 Pressd to select ROUGH.! FF/REV Fast forward and reverse! ROUGH Searching every 10 tracks

# To select FF/REV, press c.

3 Press BAND to return to the playbackdisplay.

4 Press and hold c or d to search every10 tracks on a disc (folder).# If the rest of track number is less than 10,press and holdc or d recalls the first (last) one.

! When playing back VBR (variable bit rate)-re-corded MP3 files, VBR is displayed instead ofbit rate value.

! Depending on the version of iTunes used towrite MP3 files onto a disc, comment informa-tion may not be correctly displayed. iTunes is a trademark of Apple Inc., regis-

tered in the U.S. and other countries.! The sampling frequency shown in the display

may be abbreviated.

Audio AdjustmentsUsing balance adjustmentFader/balance setting creates an ideal listen-ing environment in all occupied seats.

1 Press AUDIO to select FAD.

2 Pressa or b to adjust front/rear speak-er balance.FAD F15 to FAD R15 is displayed.# FAD 0 is the proper setting when only twospeakers are used.

3 Pressc or d to adjust left/right speakerbalance.BAL L15 to BAL R15 is displayed.# To return to the normal display, press BAND.

Using the equalizerThere are six stored equalizer settings such asDYNAMIC, VOCAL, NATURAL, CUSTOM,FLAT and POWERFUL that can easily be re-called at any time.! CUSTOM is an adjusted equalizer curve

that you create.! When FLAT is selected no supplement or

correction is made to the sound.

% Press EQ to select the equalizer.Press EQ repeatedly to switch between the fol-lowing equalizers:DYNAMICVOCALNATURALCUSTOMFLATPOWERFUL

Adjusting equalizer curvesYou can adjust the currently selected equalizercurve setting as desired. Adjusted equalizercurve settings are memorized in CUSTOM.

Adjusting bass/mid/trebleYou can adjust the bass/mid/treble level.

1 Press AUDIO to select BASS/MID/TREBLE.

2 Pressa or b to adjust the level.+6 to 6 is displayed as the level is increasedor decreased.# To return to the normal display, press BAND.

Adjusting loudnessLoudness compensates for deficiencies in thelow- and high-sound ranges at low volume.

1 Press AUDIO to select LOUD.

2 Pressa or b to turn loudness on or off.# You can also turn loudness on or off by press-ing and holding EQ.

3 Pressc or d to select a desired level.LOW (low)HI (high)# To return to the normal display, press BAND.

Adjusting source levelsSLA (source level adjustment) lets you adjustthe volume level of each source to prevent ra-dical changes in volume when switching be-tween sources.! Settings are based on the FM volume level,

which remains unchanged.! The AM volume level can also be adjusted

with source level adjustments.

1 Compare the FM volume level with thelevel of the source you wish to adjust.

2 Press AUDIO to select SLA.

3 Pressa or b to adjust the source vo-lume.SLA +4 to SLA 4 is displayed as the sourcevolume is increased or decreased.# To return to the normal display, pressBAND.

Other FunctionsAdjusting initial settingsUsing the initial settings, you can customizevarious system settings to achieve optimal per-formance from this unit.

1 Press SOURCE and hold until the unitturns off.

2 Press SOURCE and hold until functionname appears in the display.

3 Press FUNCTION to select one of the in-itial settings.Press FUNCTION repeatedly to switch be-tween the following settings:ClockFM (FM tuning step)AM (AM tuningstep)AUX (auxiliary input)Use the following instructions to operate eachparticular setting.# To cancel initial settings, press BAND.# You can also cancel initial settings by holdingdown SOURCE until the unit turns off.

Setting the clockUse these instructions to set the clock.

1 Press FUNCTION to select clock.Refer to Adjusting initial settings on this page.

2 Pressc or d to select the segment ofthe clock display you wish to set.Pressing c or d will select one segment of theclock display:HourMinute

3 Pressa or b to put a clock right.

Turning the clock display on or offYou can turn the clock display on or off.! Even when the sources are off, the clock

display appears on the display.

% Press CLOCK to turn the clock displayon or off.Each press of CLOCK turns the clock displayon or off.# The clock display disappears temporarilywhen you perform other operations, but the clockdisplay appears again after 25 seconds.

Setting the FM tuning stepThe FM tuning step employed by seek tuningcan be switched between 100 kHz, the presetstep, and 50 kHz.! If seek tuning is performed in 50 kHz steps,

stations may be tuned in imprecisely. Tunein the stations with manual tuning or useseek tuning again.

1 Press FUNCTION to select FM.Refer to Adjusting initial settings on this page.

2 Pressc or d to select the FM tuningstep.Press c to select 50 (50 kHz). Press d to se-lect 100 (100 kHz).

Setting the AM tuning stepThe AM tuning step can be switched between9 kHz, the preset step, and 10 kHz. Whenusing the tuner in North, Central or SouthAmerica, reset the tuning step from 9 kHz (531kHz to 1 602 kHz allowable) to 10 kHz (530 kHzto 1 640 kHz allowable).

1 Press FUNCTION to select AM.Refer to Adjusting initial settings on this page.

2 Pressc or d to select the AM tuningstep.Press c to select 9 (9 kHz). Press d to select10 (10 kHz).

Switching the auxiliary settingIt is possible to use auxiliary device with thisunit. Activate the auxiliary setting when usingauxiliary device connected to this unit.

1 Press FUNCTION to select AUX.Refer to Adjusting initial settings on the pre-vious page.

2 Pressa or b to turn the auxiliary set-ting on or off.

Using the AUX source

% Insert the stereo mini plug into theinput jack on this unit.

Selecting AUX as the source

% Press SOURCE to select AUX as thesource.

Important

! When this unit is installed in a vehicle withoutACC (accessory) position on the ignitionswitch, red cable must be wired to the term-inal that can detect the operation of the igni-tion key. Otherwise, battery drain may result.

! Use of this unit in conditions other than thefollowing could result in fire or malfunction. Vehicles with a 12-volt battery and negative

grounding. Speakers with 50 W (output value) and 4

ohm to 8 ohm (impedance value).! To prevent a short-circuit, overheating or mal-

function, be sure to follow the directionsbelow. Disconnect the negative terminal of the

battery before installation. Secure the wiring with cable clamps or ad-

hesive tape. To protect the wiring, wrap ad-hesive tape around them where they lieagainst metal parts.

Place all cables away from moving parts,such as gear shift and seat rails.

Place all cables away from hot places,such as near the heater outlet.

Do not pass the yellow cable through ahole into the engine compartment to con-nect to a battery.

Cover any disconnected cable connectorswith insulating tape.

Do not shorten any cables. Never cut the insulation of the power cable

of this unit in order to share the powerwith other devices. Current capacity of thecable is limited.

Use a fuse of the rating prescribed. Never wire the speaker negative cable di-

rectly to ground. Never band together multiple speakers ne-

gative cables.

! Control signal is output through blue/whitecable when this unit is powered on. Connect itto an external power amps system remotecontrol or the vehicles auto-antenna relaycontrol terminal (max. 300 mA 12 V DC). If thevehicle is equipped with a glass antenna, con-nect it to the antenna booster power supplyterminal.

! Never connect blue/white cable to externalpower amps power terminal. Also, never con-nect it to the power terminal of the auto anten-na. Otherwise, battery drain or malfunctionmay result.

! Black cable is ground. This cable and otherproducts ground cable (especially, high-cur-rent products such as power amp) must bewired separately. Otherwise, fire or malfunc-tion may result if they are accidentally de-tached.

Important

! Check all connections and systems beforefinal installation.

! Do not use unauthorized parts. Use of un-authorized parts may cause malfunctions.

! Consult your dealer if installation requires dril-ling of holes or other modifications to the vehi-cle.

! Do not install this unit where : it may interfere with operation of the vehi-

cle. it may cause injury to a passenger as a re-

sult of a sudden stop.! The semiconductor laser will be damaged if it

overheats. Install this unit away from hotplaces such as near the heater outlet.

! Optimum performance is obtained when theunit is installed at an angle of less than 60.

! When installing, to ensure proper heat disper-sal when using this unit, make sure you leaveample space behind the rear panel and wrapany loose cables so they are not blocking thevents.

conexin a tierra negativa. Altavoces con 50 W (valor de salida) y 4 oh-

mios a 8 ohmios (valor de impedancia).! Para evitar cortocircuitos, sobrecalentamiento

o fallos de funcionamiento, asegrese de se-guir las siguientes instrucciones. Desconecte el terminal negativo de la bate-

ra antes de la instalacin. Asegure el cableado con pinzas para ca-

bles o cinta adhesiva. Para proteger el ca-bleado, envuelva con cinta adhesiva laspartes en donde est en contacto con pie-zas metlicas.

Discos dobles! Los discos dobles son discos de dos caras

que incluyen CD grabable de audio en unacara y DVD grabable de vdeo en la otracara.

! Debido a que la cara CD de los discos do-bles no es fsicamente compatible con elestndar CD general, es posible que no sepueda reproducir la cara CD en esta uni-dad.

! La carga y expulsin frecuente de un discodoble puede producir rayaduras en eldisco. Las rayaduras graves pueden produ-cir problemas de reproduccin en esta uni-dad. En algunos casos, un disco doblepueden atascarse en la ranura de carga deldisco y no se expulsar. Para evitarlo, reco-mendamos que no utilice un disco dobleen esta unidad.
