In March the Pioneers Academy dedicated the month to raising funds for the people of Ghoutha, in Syria. The people had been subject to devastating injuries and loss of life as the war continues into its seventh year.

Our Student Council and Prefects worked together to plan, prepare and lead the charity drive. A competition Our Student Council and Prefects worked together to plan, prepare and lead the charity drive. A competition was set up between classes to encourage friendly competition. The first classes to work together were 7B and 7G. They set the bar high as food donations flooded in. A special mention must be given to Ruqayya Shaib 7G whose samosas and pakoras accounted for a third of the money raised. The total raised on the day including the spare change pot donated by 7G was an impressive £208.27.

Next up were 8G and 9G, they took on the challenge after seeing the success of the year 7 students. Parents Next up were 8G and 9G, they took on the challenge after seeing the success of the year 7 students. Parents actively got involved to help drive up sales too. The parents of Sahar Khalil 8G came in on the day of the sale with homemade Afghani food and freshly squeezed orange juice, this added a special atmosphere to the day. On the back of such delicious food, the girls managed to raise £215.85, beating the year 7 total! The final students to take on the challenge were 8B and 9B. We had a few generous donations however not enough to compete with the other classes. Despite this they still managed to raise £88.64.

The generosity of our students was further illustrated by their eagerness to donate any change they had left The generosity of our students was further illustrated by their eagerness to donate any change they had left over at the end of each sale. Alhamdulillah the final amount we were able to raise was £1400.50. We make dua that our brothers and sisters in Syria will benefit from our humble efforts.

Jazakum Allahu Khayran for all the hard work of each and every student, our generous parents and dedicated staff who made the whole project a huge success. May Allah reward you all with success in this life and the next. Ameen.

Charity Month

Football this year has been a great experience. It has taught us in many ways; socially and morally. We have been able to develop our team working skills further.

We have had several friendly matches with Iqra Academy, who are based in Peterborough. They are an excellent team who have had specialist coaching for many years.

We visited their school for our first friendly match. They were very welcoming, their food was great, and we were able to talk to them after the match. This gave us a good opportunity to get to know them better and develop our relationship with them.

After a few weeks, the Iqra football team came to visit us at our school for our second friendly game. After a few weeks, the Iqra football team came to visit us at our school for our second friendly game. We played a fair game on a very rainy day; unfortunately we did not win but we had a great time together. The Pioneers Academy Girl’s Football Team has been fantastic this year, welcoming new players with good skills. We are looking forward to playing against more schools and teams next year in shaa Allah. Keep up the good work girls!

Girls Football

In March the school had planned a trip for the boys and girls, the sport was ice skating! It helps to maintain physical balance and has many more health benefits. The location was Planet Ice in Solihull.

For the first hour our class had their own little space to learn ice skating step-by-step; even falling over on purpose to be able to learn how to get up. We had an experienced coach who taught us the very basics of ice skating. We all learnt a lot. It was scary at first, but when I got used to it, it was so much fun. It was such a great opportunity to have the dedicated time with the coach.

After an houAfter an hour, we were free to skate in the vast ice rink. At first I was nervous, but once I had some space it was really amazing! I learnt that sometimes you have to fall in order to be able to improve and remove the fear. Ironically the most fun part of the whole experience was falling! It really was a fantastic new experience for all the students.

In March our students visited the Kingswood Outdoor Education Centre in Shropshire, for our first residential trip. We had 20 girls stay from Wednesday 21st to Friday 23rd March; and 20 boys stay from Monday 26th to Wednesday 28th March.

The English department launched a poetry competition in February. The theme for the poems was “ Prophet Muhammed” (may peace and blessings be upon him). We had a few weeks to submit our entries and we were then pleasantly surprised with a visit from Muslim Belal and Naveed Ahmed. They had agreed to come and judge our poems and deliver specialist workshops to all of the students.students.

Despite the nerves many students fought their fears and stood on the stage to recite their poems, I found that really cool and inspiring. The winners from the girls were Ramla Sharif 9G and Soumeyya Doukoure 9G and the winners from the boys were Isaac Hussain 7B and Chakir Chabati 7B.

We had fun in the workshops, as we were challenged to develop our writing skills and the delivery of our poems. We were given valuable tips and tools on how to project our voices.

I was really impressed by both Muslim Belal and Naveed I was really impressed by both Muslim Belal and Naveed Ahmed; their poems (spoken word) were so motivating and inspirational. They were perfect role models; demonstrating how they incorporate the deen into their passion for poetry.

A representative from The WE Project visited us in January to introduce their work to us. The project was created by Marc and Craig Keilburger and is known world-wide. All the school were given a short talk and detailed presentation of the charity.

I learnt that the organisation has raised lots of money for I learnt that the organisation has raised lots of money for education, housing and food for the needy. The WE Project also has an annual trip to India, where young people are able to see behind the scenes and help communities directly. At the end of the year they also host a festival for young people to celebrate all the charity’s achievements.

A select group of students from all year groups were then A select group of students from all year groups were then chosen for a more in-depth workshop; this focussed on the environment and thinking about our own areas. We are looking forward to implementing what we have learnt and working with the charity in the future.

On February 1st we celebrated World Hijab Day. It was amazing as we learnt about how both men and women should dress modestly as Allah has mentioned in Surah An Nur.

““Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is acquainted with what they do. And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their head covers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers that you might succeed” .Surah An Nur Verses 30-31.

Every girl in the school got a present of a hijab from the parents in the PTA; they were of different colours. It was a pleasure to know that Muslim women around the world who wear the hijab are honoured with a special day in recognition of their modesty.
