DOES THIS BELONG TO YOU??

Lost Property will be heading off

this Friday to a charity shop.

Please get along to check it out

and claim any items belonging to

you before Friday at 3pm.

This is Week 7 of 10 in Term 3 2019!

Thank you to Grassroots Trust. They have granted us $5,500 towards our new

playground.

Greetings, welcome to week 7,

At present we are very aware of the Measles outbreak in Auckland and the recent cases reported in the Waikato. Therefore here at

school we are ensuring that our registers for non immunised students and all staff born after 1/1/69 are up to date as

recommended by Public Health. Their message is clear, get immunised if you know you are not or if you are unsure. It is an

extremely contagious disease, in fact one of the most contagious diseases on the planet and one that can easily be stopped in its

tracks with vaccination. We need to inform you that those not known to be immune may be quarantined and excluded should

measles occur in our school.

What will happen if we have measles case(s)?

There are two ways we may be informed of measles. We may be contacted by Public Health to inform us of a confirmed case or

we may be informed by a member of the school community.

If we are contacted by Public Health, we will be required to take the following appropriate action:

ensure exclusion of the case while infectious – they will advise on safe return date

quarantine/exclude the susceptible contacts – they will advise on exclusion period.

If someone else informs us of measles in our school, Public Health recommends that we ensure that person is isolated at home and

then check with Public Health before taking any further action. We do not need to undertake any action unless the case is

confirmed by Public Health. They are frequently “chasing rumours” of measles (or other notifiable diseases) and would prefer to

ensure cases are confirmed (or at least probable) before disrupting schools and alarming communities. If there is a suspect case

(for example, someone calls to say a child is being investigated or has measles), the suspect case will need to stay at home while

investigations are underway.

In short the message is that all people aged 0 – 50 must check their measles status and get vaccinated if they do not know.

No MMR is to be given during pregnancy. There is currently 7 confirmed cases in Waikato and this number is growing daily.

Information Evening for Y6 Parents

Last night Kawaka Team held their information

evening for Y6 parents. This was to inform

parents about Kawaka Team, Y7 and Y8 learning

and teaching in 2020. Thank you to those parents

who attended. It was excellent to have some of

our Y7 and 8 students present to showcase

aspects of the Tech Arts programme and the

STEM (Science) room. If you were unable to

come to the meeting last night, please feel

welcome to come in and talk with the team

(Lynette Horn, team leader, Amanda Nasilasila,

Amy White, and Melanie Dragovich) or myself at

any time. There are information pamphlets here

at school that give information about the Year 7

& 8programme as well as information about

BYOD (Bring your own device) at Pirongia School.

A letter will be coming home to all Y6 parents in

the near future with further information. Thank you Paul Wheeler from WRU for organizing these awesome Gilbert rugby balls for us. We are SO stoked!
