PIRS STUDENTS VISIT FOR MEASUREMENTS AND ASSESSMENT OF DISABLED FOR ORTHOSES PROSTHESES

AT FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS OF DISTT. MUZAFFARGARH & DISTT. JHANG

CHEF International is very much focused on the need of Persons With Disability in disaster and emergency situations

.Therefore CHEF International developed and designed inclusive Disaster response and risk reduction projects and

advocates for Persons with disability .Districts of Muzaffargarh and Jhang were among the most affected areas of

Recent flood in 2014. CHEF International under its DDR program organized Medical camps in Flood affected areas and

identified nearly 25 disabled in need for Artificial Limbs and Braces.

PIRS emerged with a goal to develop an Inclusive Society with the involvement of trained and skilled human resource

in the community having the aim of not only to provide services but to understand the actual needs and demands of

disabled community. It was the best opportunity for PIRS to stand by its mission by helping those who are destitute

due to disabilities and disaster at the same time.

The purpose of the visit was to take measurements as first step for the preparation of artificial limbs and braces for

identified disabled. Taking the advantage of visit it was the best chance to introduce the working environment and

required technical skills to students of PIRS O&P Technician in the disaster affected areas and community, So they can

prepare themselves for future needs and demands as qualified O&P technician.

The visit started from PIRS, on Sunday 01 March 2015, and reached Multan in the evening. On 02/March/2015

students were taken to the CHEF Office Muzaffargarh and then to the Union council of Muradabad, District

Muzafarabad. 11 patients have been checked at three different villages and 06 casts have been taken. After a night

stay at Muzaffargarh, on 03/March/2015, the team has been moved to Chak 11, Near Kasovana village of District

Jhang. There nearly 15 patients have been checked and 11 casts have been taken. The measurements have been

handed over to the field team to be transported to Islamabad. The team was back on 03/March/2015 Tuesday.

During the visit, students assisted in taking measurements, castings and assessments of Patients. It was very

challenging job and the first practical experience for all students to work in community.
