My Pitch• The genre of my magazine will be chart music, this involves whatever genre of music is in

the chart of that week. E.g, Pop music- Will.I.Am, Folk music- Taylor Swift, Dub Step- Chase & Status. This then means that my magazine provides for a wider audience, as everyone has a variety of tastes. I chose a chart magazine, because my survey showed that there was a variation between what genre’s people liked, so by choosing a chart magazine is combines the majority of them. Billboard and Smash Hits were the most read/bought magazines and both of them are chart magazine.

• Similar to Billboard magazine, my magazine will be gender neutral. The majority of people who answered my survey were female (66.7%) However I want my magazine to appeal to both genders as it makes the magazine more popular. This should be possible as the genre of the magazine is gender neutral. However, the image of the musician on the front may appeal to just a male or female audience, however this just depends who is on the charts at the time. There is a gap in the market for a gender neutral chart magazines, as those available are mainly appropriate or the female audience. The female images will appeal to the male gaze, and the male will be seen as ‘eye candy’ for females.

• My magazine will appeal to 17-25 year olds, this age group was chosen because of the results of my survey (77.8% in that age group). This is a good age as it also represents the genre of the magazine as people over 25 aren’t likely to be as interested in the charts. Billboard, my target magazine’s, age is 25-54. However I think this is too wide spread, as 54 year olds aren’t likely to buy my magazine. ‘We love Pop’ and ‘Top of the Pops’ are chart magazines but for a younger audience. I aim my magazine for the middle age between the two magazines.

• 77.8% of those who answered my survey were white British, suggesting that I should make my magazine appealing to them. However, as it is a chart magazine the contents may include singers from other ethnicities. The front cover image I will use will be designed to appeal the White British audience.

• My magazine will be released every week. The official chart is released weekly, so my magazine will come out the day after the official chart is released. My magazine will include a insight to the musicians lifestyles, and their opinions rather than just listing who is in the charts. However, my survey showed that 33.3% buy there magazine every fortnight but I feel like there is a gap in the market for a weekly magazine. Billboard magazine also releases their magazine every week, and that was my existing target magazine.

• The price of my magazine will be around £2.20. This price reflects the release date, as it if was a monthly released magazine it would be more expensive. This price is also in the price range for the most likely price to spend (£2.00-£2.99- which is what my survey showed)My price is affordable, making it likely to be more popular. The price also appeals to the target age as they wont have a lot of disposable income as the majority are either students, or with part time jobs ( survey shows), so they are still likely to be able to afford the magazine and buy it. My magazine will be worth the price as it will a glossy, sophisticated magazine, rich in detail.

• I will be using gender neutral colours for the magazines colour scheme, so that it is suitable to the target audience. Colours that I am thinking of are a dark red/maroon, or a aqua blue, or a lime green as they don’t have any typical gender associations. I will only use one main colour, so my magazine is simplistic and sophisticated. But I might change the shade of the colour.

• I haven’t decided on the particular font that I am going to be using, but I want my font to be bold and informative. I don’t want it to take away focus from the images but just do promote the headings.

• The layout of my magazine will be structured and informative but it will be very simplistic. I want my magazine too be clear and easy to read, but it to be different to the other music magazines around, as my magazine will be more minimalistic than others, e.g. NME. This should hopefully attract the readers.

• The are a few names that I have thought of gfor my magazine but I am yet undecided. I was thinking : “Stream40” because it is a mainstream magazine of the top 40. “Download” “Update” “Frequent” “Current” “Charts” “Museekly” By doing my pitch I will get a clearer answer of the name I should choose.
