1. What is Anecdotal?

Anecdotal is a London based production company that specialises in the creation of funny and engaging narrative video content. 2. Why You Should Choose Us

We get the details right We believe that the details - like the cast, location, music and graphics - can all send a powerful message about your brand. We’ll spend hours trying to get these details just right and involve you in the big decisions.

We put story first Our belief is that concept and script development is the most important part of the filmmaking process, and this is where we spend the largest proportion of our time. Even if you’ve already got a rough concept or script we’ll help you refine it; after all you can’t fix a bad script in post.

We make videos that stand out Most companies create generic videos to ‘hit the key points’ without pausing to consider how best to engage their audience. We make sure that every video we make is entertaining in its own right to ensure those key points actually have an audience.

“We spend hours trying to get the minutiae right; from developing concepts for a specific audience to finalising the sound design.”

What’s different about our approach?

CONCEPT AND SCRIPT PRE-PRODUCTION

PRODUCTION POST-PRODUCTION

Note: Our typical timeline is 6-8 weeks but we can work faster depending on project requirements.

3. Our Process (1/3): Concept and Script Development

Step 2: Concept Development We typically develop three to five concepts for every video, ranging in both tone and style. We’ll write a short description of each for you to review, then hone the concepts to take your comments into account.

“Getting the concept and script right is an iterative process. We take your feedback into account at every stage, honing the concepts and

script drafts to meet your requirements.”

Step 3: Script Development This is where the real work starts. We’ll need to do several drafts to get the script ready to shoot, striking a balance between what the audience sees on screen and what they hear. Whatever we do, we always make sure it stands out from the crowd.

Step 1: Information gathering The first step is for us to meet to discuss your product/service, brand language, values, aims and target audience. We’ll then ask you to send across some further information; things like your brand documents and specifications. Of course, we’re happy to sign NDAs if required.

There are three steps to producing our ‘stand out’ script:

3. Our Process (2/3): Pre-Production and Production

Logistical:Creative:

With the script green-lit, we move into pre-production and production, which can be split into two basic components:

Casting: We hold online or face-to-face casting sessions to make sure we get the right on-screen talent for your film.

Crewing: Yes, this is creative too; we’ll make sure your budget is spent wisely, using specialist crew to ensure we get the best out of every aspect of production.

Location: We scour our network to find great locations for each shoot; a good location can send a strong message about your brand.

Shot list/storyboard: We plan every shot to make sure your film looks as good as possible and fits together nicely.

Communication: This means making sure everyone knows where they need to be and when so we can avoid nasty surprises on the day.

Catering: This may seem trivial but we like to plan every detail. And trust us, nothing could be worse for your production than a hungry cast and crew!

Scheduling: We make sure every shot is scheduled to maximise our time on set, taking into account factors like daylight, location moves, and the potential for actor fatigue.

Kit: We’ll hire in specialist grip and lighting equipment where required to meet the needs of the storyboard/shotlist.

“Production is really about getting the best out of every element; that’s why

we plan everything so carefully.”

3. Our Process (3/3): Post-Production

Step 2: Adding Motion Graphics Once the edit is approved, we’ll finalise the motion graphics (if required). Depending on the complexity required, this work may be carried out by a specialist VFX artist. Again, you will receive cuts for review.

“We spend hours trying to get the minutiae right; from finding the right sound effects to choosing exactly the right shade of green.”

Step 3: The Audio Mix An audio mix will make sure the film sounds great on all devices. If required, we’ll arrange for voice over to be recorded (e.g. for animated or documentary formats).

Step 1: The Edit The first stage is the most creative: this is when we choose the best takes, cut the film together and get the pacing and timing just right. We’ll send you cuts and take your comments into account as we make revisions.

There are four stages to post-production:

Step 4: The Colour Grade A colour grade will polish the film, making sure every shot ‘pops’.
