Plagiarism Policy

´Every Student Will Achieveµ

Stephenson Middle School is committed to the

academic and personal achievement of all students.

The development of social and ethical responsibilities

of all the members of the school community is

paramount. Academic honesty is a key component of

that development. Plagiarism will NOT be allowed.

All of the members of our school community must

submit original work, or must use correct and

acceptable citations when using the intellectual and

academic work of others.

Consequences

Students will receive a grade of zero for work submitted in which plagiarism has

occurred, if the student acknowledges the violation.

If student, does not acknowledge violation, a referral is to be submitted to

the assistant principal (AP) for discipline. Parents will be notified and an

informal hearing is held with the AP, student, teacher, and parent. If studentis found to have violated the policy, punishment can cover the consequences

spelled out in the SMS Handbook.

Students and parents can appeal using the appeal process spelled out in

the SMS Handbook.
