I have provident a good amount of background and included it in the brochure I created to give out to the community, then I planned to receive their feedback on how they feel about panhandling and if they support panhandlers or not. My brochures include some facts about panhandlers and also a new law that has come into action in Florida with panhandlers; then lastly I state on the brochure that I am asking for a call to action to persuade people in the right direction when supporting panhandlers and to choose to be against giving money to a panhandler but instead hand them food, a business card or an application to a job thats hiring. I feel these ways of helping panhandlers is better than handing money over when you never know if a panhandler is honestly homeless and in need of financial help or if they are just a fraud. Ive never personally realized how bad of an issue panhandling was until I began to research it. I feel like many other people could relate to not knowing that much about this civic issue, so I thought of an idea that would be perfect in getting my point across about this issue. I could create a flyer per issue Ive researched on fraudulent and aggressive panhandling and then on each flyer would have a different story on an issue that occurred and was reported on. Then I can get the communitys feedback on how they felt about that flyer they received and if it changed their mind about panhandling or not. I also would like to create a peaceful protest throughout Downtown Orlando, by getting my point across about panhandling and how fraudulent and aggressive panhandling needs to be put to a stop. Based on an Orlando Sentinel report made from in Sanford, they are starting to crack down on aggressive panhandling due to situations that have been occurring in downtown. "It's one thing to sit at a corner and ask for money. But it's the person who follows someone down the street. It's the person who corners someone to ask for money at an ATM. It's the person who asks for money from women walking in a parking lot to their cars, and the next thing the woman knows, she's being called names"(Comas). I couldnt agree more with this statement; this is exactly my point when it comes to panhandling; its one thing to be sitting on the side walk out of the way and minding your own business while asking for money, then to be stalking pedestrians and being verbally abusive to get money from people. Those are the panhandlers that are ruining it for the rest of the innocent ones that dont cause any harm. Those are the panhandlers that are causing there to be laws made and people to have this image in the back of their head of how panhandlers are based on their public memory. This is the reason I feel that if people stop giving panhandlers money it could reduce the problem because then panhandlers wouldnt be out there being aggressive because they would eventually get in their head that no one will give them money, when now its set in their head that someone will hand them money; its become a habit, a cause. But just like everything else, it can be easily changed like it was never a thing and panhandlers would eventually disappear. Thats what I think anyway about the issue, but overall the public needs to be aware of this issue, all of its ins and outs; not just the negatives of the issue and what they see based on the news, which are just a slim amount of negative issues on something that occurred.
