Earth is the third planet from the sun. The Earth is filled with tons of living

organisms. Organisms are living things.

1.1 PLANET OF LIFE

There are three places where

organisms can be found. The

lithosphere, the hydrosphere, and the atmosphere are the places where they

can be found.

One of the reasons organisms can live on

earth is that earth has liquid water.

Liquid water helps with many thing like

heating the earth.

The Lithosphere: a layer of rock that

covers the earth from 10 to 200 kilometers deep. There are three

types of rock that make this up.

One type is the igneous rock. This is

formed when liquefied rock is

cooled and becomes solid.

Another rock is the sedimentary rock.

This rock is formed by the weathering of other rocks and then those sediments get

compressed and cemented into rock.

The last type of rock is the metamorphic rock. This rock is

formed with lots of heat and pressure.

The hydrosphere: the part of earth

where all the water based animals live.

70% of the world is covered in water.

97% of that water is salt water. The salt water contains 35 grams of salt in a

liter. The other 3% of the water is fresh

water.

Two-thirds of the fresh water exists in frozen glaciers and

ice caps and because there is little fresh

water, it is a valuable substance.

Not all water is above ground. A lot

of water is found underground. There

are two types of underground water.

Aquifer: underground places filled with water and

Artesian wells: water flows to the

surface due to high pressure

underground.

The Atmosphere: an envelope of gases that surrounds earth and also holds the air

we breath.

1.3 THE ATMOSPHERE

Page 14: Planet Earth. Earth is the third planet from the sun. The Earth is filled with tons of living organisms. Organisms are living things. 1.1 PLANET OF LIFE

There are four different layers of the atmosphere. There is the troposphere, the

stratosphere, the mesosphere, and the

thermosphere.

The lowest part is the

troposphere and the next it the stratosphere. The troposphere: the layer that holds most of the

weather and touches the earth. The

stratosphere: reaches the height of 50 km above earth and also contains a gas called

ozone.

The next two layers are the mesosphere

and the thermosphere. The

mesosphere: it extended up to 85 km above earths surface. The thermosphere: the outmost layer of

the atmosphere and it can get up to 2000

degrease C.

The biosphere: all the parts of the earth

that support and contains life.
