Exercise Reviewing the SIP documentAs a class discussion, review the sample SIP provided by the instructor to perform thefollowing steps from the HP Channel Partners perspective:

    1. Review the Introduction section of the SIP and discuss the customers businessrequirements and key contacts.

    2. Review the HP Solution section of the SIP and discuss the solution design andthe high-level design (HLD) implementation plan.

    3. Review the Roles and Responsibilities section of the SIP and discuss theChannel Partners roles and responsibilities.

    4. Review the Considerations section of the SIP and discuss the assumptionsand recommendations regarding system sizing, growth, and performance.

Solution validationTo validate the proposed solution in the sample SIP, answer the following questions:

    1. After reviewing the Introduction section, what are the customers businessrequirements? How can the HP Superdome solution meet thoserequirements?

Customer scenarioTPR Radeon Inc. is an international HP customer and is the largest supplier anddistributor of radar system components for commercial shipping in the US withrapidly expanding markets in both Europe and Asia. With 36 percent market share

TPR is looking to expand its market further and increase its worldwide distributionchannel.

The Chief Information Officer (CIO), Thomas Lock, is expecting the computing needsof the company to show steady growth over the next three years. He needs toconsolidate the four largest development systems into a single system that will handlethe growth over the next three years. He also expects due to an upcomingacquisition two more development teams will be integrated.

The CIO is confident that the following resources will meet the companys current andfuture growth requirements:

A Superdome system for consolidation The current EVA storage area network (SAN) storage and backup solution

    Other considerations include:

The IT staff is not concerned with disaster recovery or clustering at this time. An Oracle database will be used for all development. The network bandwidth for data and backup is critical. The 1000BaseSX

adapter must be doubled per application to meet the requirements for dataand backup.

There is no requirement for system management tools at this time, other thanthe Support Management Station (SMS) tool for the new system.

The customer requires 24 x 7 support. The development system is located in the Atlanta headquarters. Development teams from the pending acquisition will be relocated to Atlanta

headquarters, two additional partitions will be required

The CIO states that the Technical Director, Joe Dukes, is funded for thisproject.

Existing environmentThe following list depicts the current environment for TPR Radeon Inc., which includesa total of 40 processors and 128GB of memory:

He has asked you to help with the need for increasedcomputing power. The company needs to consolidate its four largest developmentsystems into a single system that will enable the expected growth, and it needs to do

this without the upgrades causing significant downtime. The CIO is confident that the following resources will meet the companys current andfuture growth requirements:

Additional informationAs you gathered technical requirements for TPR Radeon Inc. in the Analysis phase, you determined the following additional information regarding the design of theirSuperdome system:

At this stage, the customer wants to use the latest high performance Itaniumprocessor.

An SMS is required. Because the customer may add a Windows partition inthe future, the Windows SMS will be selected. The customer also wants to usethe SMS as a console.

The customer wants to minimize downtime for any upgrades, so instantCapacity (iCAP) processors should be considered the customer alsounderstands that partitions for the additional development teams will need tobe added later.

Database performance is a top priority to the customer. The customers system should be optimized for maximum performance at all

stages, including memory, cell, and I/O.

Each development team requires their own hard partition on the system This system will be used for development and testing only. The boot disk requirements are two mirrored 73GB boot disks per partition.

NoteIn the preceding steps, performance uplift was added only to the processors.

When addressing bottlenecks, more exploration is required because they couldbe caused by processors, memory, disks, I/O, application code, or the network.

ObjectivesAfter completing this lab you should be able to use the Microsoft Sales Builder forWindows (SBW) tool to:

Configure an HP Superdome system Generate a quote for the Superdome system

NoteEnsure that you are running the latest version of SBW.

RequirementsThe following components are required to perform this lab:

Notebook computer with all software and tools loaded (provided by theinstructor)

Sales Builder for Windows (SBW) tool, which is already loaded on thestudent notebook computer

The results of the Designing the Superdome System Lab

A component list that is provided in the scenario that followsNote

Although the most current terminology uses socket instead of way whendescribing server types, the SBW still uses way, such as Superdome 64-way.

IntroductionThis lab builds on the TPR Radeon Inc. scenario used in the Gathering TechnicalRequirements and Designing the Superdome System labs. A component list hasbeen generated using the configuration guide and the Designing the Superdome

    System lab results.

Component listYou will use the following component list with the SBW tool to configure and quote aSuperdome system for TPR Radeon Inc.

NoteThe following list provides an example of the type of component list you will useto configure and quote Superdome systems.

    Quote Title = 1 x sx2000 SD64 1 x sx2000 32/64 Core Chassis SD, 3-phase, 4-wire power 1 x redundant PDCA

NoteEmpty cell slots require cell terminators.

    nPar1 (1c-4p-32GB)

NotenPar1 (1c-4p-32GB) should be interpreted as follows:

    nPar ----- The partition name

    1c ----- one cell

4p ----- four processor module which is eight processor cores

HP-UX 11i v2 Enterprise OE, integrated, with DVD Media 1 x English hardcopy manual for HP-UX 11i v1 and documentation on

    DVD-ROM

    1 x sx2000 cell 4 x 1.6GHz/24MB CPUs

NoteSocket terminators are required when only one processor socket filled in a cell.

32 GB: 2 x 16GB memory modulesNoteThis lab is using two 16GB memory modules instead of four 8GB memorymodule. This configuration provides eight dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs).

    3 processor modules

    1 iCAP processor module

When configuring a single iCAP processor, it must be manually enabled.

NoteThe software graphics still use the term iCOD, but the most current term for thisfeature is iCAP.

NoteIf the component list had called for three active processors in Partition 1, there isno easy way to configure an odd number of active processors because aprocessor module contains two processors. The only way to accomplish this is toorder the cell board with two processor modules, but only one active. The iCAPmodule will be activated on site. This enablement must be manually entered inthe quote.
