Quality Physical Education planning allows learners to:

• Build on what they have already achieved rather than starting from the beginning

• Have opportunities to plan, develop and reflect upon physical skills

• Be challenged and the challenge be raised year on year

• Be an integral part of the planning

•Make links across the areas of experience and other subjects

• Initially set-up strong links with the ICT, PSE and Technology departments – e.g. (ICT/PE)

• Previous focus was on sporting profiles and HFWB and we wanted to develop and extend this to others areas of the curriculum

• Sporting profiles were embedded in the year 7 ICT and PE SoW and we wanted to amend this to include more detail and increase their impact by continuing this into year 8

• Much more awareness and understanding of links between subjects – staff and pupils “pupils speak with ease about the benefits of developing good communication skills in their PE lessons and how good speaking and listening helps them to improve their physical skills”

• Quality of pupils’ work has improved

• Pupils are keen to continue to be ‘peer mentors’

• Pupils’ enthusiasm for the lessons has improved

• Staff in other curriculum areas are more enthusiastic about PE

Learners:

* Build on * Are challenged

* Are an integral part * Are aware of the links

* Have sufficient opportunities

“ Quality Physical Education planning should ensure that learners develop a wide range of skills that allow them to progress and have confidence in tackling increasingly more technical and demanding tasks”
