Dear Youth Leaders,

Lead THE Cause is an important aspect of Dare 2 Share’s mission to energize the Church to mobilize youth to Gospelize their world! We wholeheartedly believe that this generation, unleashed with the power of the gospel, has the potential to launch another historically great awakening.

While disheartening, we feel our current reality provides a unique opportunity for the Church, and that if we take advantage of the technology available, we can unite, ignite and unleash this generation with the gospel like never before! God is up to something BIG, and we want you and your students to be on the leading edge of His Kingdom movement.

So, we are now focusing our efforts on developing an exciting, new summer experience for you and your students – Lead THE Cause Virtual.

Lead THE Cause Virtual will contain many of the unique features that make the traditional Lead THE Cause experience so distinctive:

• Teenagers will learn how to clearly articulate the gospel and activate what they learn through multiple outreach opportunities.

• Youth Leaders will receive training on Gospel Advancing philosophy and implementation, and then work with their teens to develop and document a strategic plan for reaching their community in the coming year.

• The format of the experience will follow the universal Prayer-Care-Share model and will include activities that support each of these important areas.

• Students will be encouraged and emboldened through connection with like-minded teens from around the country who want to pursue their world for Jesus. LTC Virtual will use technology that provides that interaction and contact.

• Outreach opportunities will provide opportunities for students to put what they’ve learned into action. There will be both pandemic proof and face-to-face options for sharing the gospel.

• An annual theme that ties the training together will remain. This year’s theme is Activate and is based on passages from the book of Acts.

• High energy speakers will provide inspiration, training and motivation – Greg Stier, Zane Black, Doug Holliday, and Jerrod Gunter are all slated to be at LTC Virtual.

• Meaningful worship times will keep the students pursuing their relationship with God. This year the Jeff Polen Band will be leading us into the Father’s presence.

It is our primary objective to provide as interactive of an experience as possible at LTC Virtual. However, with so much still unknown, we will plan to accommodate three scenarios:

Page 3: PlanninG GUIDE...While disheartening, we feel our current reality provides a unique opportunity for the Church, and that if we take advantage of the technology available, we can unite,

• BEST – Pandemic Restrictions Withdrawn Several youth groups in a community will be able to participate together, with one or more hosting the training stream. Activities can be done together in the community.

• BETTER – Pandemic Restrictions Reduced Each youth group will be able to host attendees from their church’s youth room, or possibly small group host homes.

• GOOD – Full Restrictions in Place Each LTC Virtual attendee can participate from their own home under stay-at-home restrictions. They will participate fully “virtual.”

We are committed to designing the best possible programming for each of these scenarios. And although we are still determining the needed adjustments to the schedule and the best delivery technology, we do know that the basic requirement will be strong and reliable internet access. If you have that, you should be able to participate.

Dear Parents,

I’m excited to announce that our youth group has extended an invitation to (Student Name) to join a select group of students for Lead THE Cause Virtual (LTCV). LTCV is a virtual week-long evangelism and discipleship training event where students learn to become leaders for THE Cause of Christ—to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20).

As a group, we will have a unique opportunity to develop a strategic plan for how we will bring the gospel message to our communities.

This is a week filled with the Holy Spirit, prayer, worship, evangelism training, hands-on experience with sharing the gospel, and great team-building exercises. Those who attended LTC in the past have returned fueled and passionate about bringing the Good News of Jesus to their friends, classmates, family members, and more. LTC is also a great way to prepare your student for future mission trips, leadership in careers, and to share the gospel with their friends and classmates.

I’m writing to you because Dare 2 Share and the leadership of our youth ministry have been praying about who should attend LTCV this coming summer. Our youth ministry team agrees that (Student Name) is at a place in their life where they can be used by God in some incredible ways. We are convinced of this because of (Student Name)’s (insert characteristics unique to the student you’re talking about as reasons why they would make an excellent fit for LTC. Make it personalized for the student and the parent.)

Please take some time over the next couple of days and weeks to pray about this opportunity and to talk about it as a family. This experience represents a significant investment in the life of your family, our youth group, our church, and ______________________ (Student Name)’s and her/his friends’ lives.

Here are some details about the event:

Dates/Times: ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I would love to set up a time to talk with you about this incredible opportunity for (Student Name) and to answer any questions you may have. I will be in contact with you to hear what you’re thinking and to hopefully set up a time for us to get together for discussion.

Thank you for your consideration and prayer!

In Him,

Your Youth Leader

Student Pre-Event TrainingThere’s a lot to do before Lead THE Cause Virtual this summer, but one of the most important pieces is making sure your group is up to speed with the required pre-event training.

Schedule time to go through the “Before-Then-After” (found below) and “You Can’t Quarantine the GOSPEL!” (https://connect.dare2share.org/cant-quarantine-the-gospel-curriculum) trainings with your group 1-2 months before the event and use it as a team building exercise.

If you aren’t able to meet in person or do the training digitally together, be sure to communicate and hold individual students accountable to do the training on their own. However, we recommend doing the training together in some way if possible so you can go through the experience with one another.

Inspiring Videos

1. Send out or show your group (either through a video platform using a shared screen or in person) the inspiring “4 Minute Crash Course in Sharing Your Faith” training video with Greg Stier located here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK9lsiEcW7k

2. Also, have students watch the “Life in 6 Words: The GOSPEL” video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ymfh6RJezQ4 and discuss it.

3. Send out or show your group (either through a video platform using a shared screen or in person) the testimony training “Before-Then-After” at https://youtu.be/Uq1VVI3nzv0

Testimony Preparation - “Before-Then-After”

1. Before watching the video, pass out in person or email out the fill-in-the-blanks handout located on pages 16-19 of this document and instruct your students to have the document ready to fill in the blanks (either physically or digitally).

2. Work with your students (in person, on the phone, or through video chat) and offer guidance on the process of writing and memorizing their story after going through this Before-Then-After training. Each student and leader attending Lead THE Cause Virtual should have his or her testimony written and memorized before the event.

3. Before starting the training with your students assign each a partner for the training. If you are not able to meet in person, decide and instruct them as to what will be the best method for them to talk for the “pair share” activities. This could be texting each other, calling each other or using a private messaging feature in your video platform.

LEADER GUIDEBEFORE-THEN-AFTER …Every believer’s story can be broken up into 3 parts: BEFORE-THEN-AFTER

Explain to your students that you are going to be spending some time together learning how to write out their own testimony and practice memorizing it, and that you’re excited to help them discover how to do this. Let them know that you’ll watch a video and fill in the blanks the best you can while watching and then you’ll go through it together in discussion.

1. “BEFORE” (What your life was like before you met Jesus)

a. This may range from raunchy to religious to everything in between.

Ask a volunteer to share what they got for the next blank:

i. The Samaritan woman had a raunchy past.

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“Jesus said, ‘You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband.” John 4:17-18

Ask a volunteer to share what they got for the next blank:

ii. The Apostle Paul had a religious past.

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless.” Philippians 3:4-6

b. What was your life before you met Jesus?

i. Reminder: Every “before” story has one thing in common.

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air... All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.” Ephesians 2:1-3

Page 14: PlanninG GUIDE...While disheartening, we feel our current reality provides a unique opportunity for the Church, and that if we take advantage of the technology available, we can unite,

14

ii. Describe your story in three words.

What did you struggle with? How did you feel? What were you looking for? Write down three adjectives:

Ask a few volunteers to share one word that comes to mind for them:

_(scared)________________, ____(isolated)______________, ____(confused)______________

Pair Share: Share your three adjectives with your “partner” and why you felt that way.

2. “THEN” (How you met Jesus)

a. This may range from intensely dramatic to relatively routine.

Ask a volunteer to share what they got for the next blank:

i. Paul had an intensely dramatic conversion experience.

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“About noon, O king, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ Then I asked, ‘Who are you, LORD?’ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the LORD replied.” Acts 26:13-15

Ask a volunteer to share what they got for the next blank:

ii. The Samaritan woman had a relatively routine conversion experience.

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, ‘Will you give me a drink?’” John 4:7

b. How did you become a believer in Jesus?

How did you first hear the Gospel? Who explained it to you? How old were you? How did you feel when you heard it? Do you remember the exact moment or not?

Pair Share: Tell “your partner” how you came to understand the gospel and put your faith in Jesus.

3. “AFTER” (What Jesus has been doing in your life since “then”)

a. What did you lose or find right after?

Ask a volunteer to share what they got for the next blank:

Page 15: PlanninG GUIDE...While disheartening, we feel our current reality provides a unique opportunity for the Church, and that if we take advantage of the technology available, we can unite,

15

i. The Samaritan woman lost her thirst.

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?’” John 4:28-29

Ask a volunteer to share what they got for the next blank:

ii. The Apostle Paul found his purpose.

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.” Philippians 3:7-8

b. What has Jesus been doing in your life since you trusted in Jesus?

Pair Share: Share with” your partner” what you lost and/or found as a result of trusting in Jesus and what He has been doing in your life since.

4. Four reminders when sharing your story.

a. Be ready to share your story in a minute or two at any time.

b. Don’t make Christianity appear to be a pain-free zone.

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers. I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?” 2 Corinthians 11:24-29

Ask a volunteer to share what they got for the next blank:

c. Refuse to have story envy.

i. Some have a dramatic “BEFORE” story.

ii. Others have a dramatic “THEN” story.

iii. Some have a dramatic “AFTER” story.

Page 16: PlanninG GUIDE...While disheartening, we feel our current reality provides a unique opportunity for the Church, and that if we take advantage of the technology available, we can unite,

16

iv. All of our stories have a dramatic conclusion!

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.’” Revelation 21:1-4

d. Remember that the ultimate story is the gospel story!

Ask a volunteer to read the following passage:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes...” Romans 1:16

Writing your “BEFORE-THEN-AFTER” story

Encourage your students that God is going to use their story no matter what it is and to really pray through this experience. Let them know that you are excited to hear their stories. Give a brief example from your own testimony of how this could look. Pray for them and then give them time to work on this. Consider staying connected during this time and having a few students share to wrap up your time together.

BEFORE THEN AFTERWhat was your life like before you trusted in Jesus? What did you struggle with? How did you feel? What were you looking for? (Use your three adjectives)

How did you first hear the Gospel? How old were you? Who explained it to you? How did you feel? Do you remember the exact moment or not?

What did you lose and/or find as a result of trusting in Jesus? What He has been doing in your life since you put your faith in Jesus?

Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?” 2 Corinthians 11:24-29

c. Refuse to have story ___________.

i. Some have a dramatic “BEFORE” story.

ii. Others have a dramatic “THEN” story.

iii. Some have a dramatic “AFTER” story.

iv. All of our stories have a dramatic ____________________!

All these things are gone forever.’” Revelation 21:1-4

d. Remember that the ultimate story is the ____________________ story!

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes...” Romans 1:16

Writing your “BEFORE-THEN-AFTER” story

BEFORE THEN AFTERWhat was your life like before you trusted in Jesus? What did you struggle with? How did you feel? What were you looking for? (Use your three adjectives)

How did you first hear the Gospel? How old were you? Who explained it to you? How did you feel? Do you remember the exact moment or not?

What did you lose and/or find as a result of trusting in Jesus? What He has been doing in your life since you put your faith in Jesus?
