Part 1:Classify Plants
How can you classify plants?
Essential Questions
• How does the plant structure help plants survive in their environments?
I-Can Statements
• I can explore how to classify plants into groups based on the structures that help them survive in their environment.

Engage Activity: How many ways can you classify plants?
• Go outside to investigate. • Find plants that you can observe and
classify
• Observe each plan. • Study the leaves, stem, and other
structures that help the plants survive in their environment.
• Collect Data • Use a notebook (and optional camera) to
collect and record information about the plants
• Classify and Explain • Talk with someone about your ideas and
group the plants into 2 groups: Plants with flowers and Plants without flowers
• Present and Reflect • Share your work with someone
while describing your model.
• Compare your models and ideas to others who are providing feedback • Do you need to change
something?
• List ways that you could divide each group of plants into smaller groups.
Exploration Reading Time:
