Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) 1 ½” x 51 ½” strips.• (3) 1 ½” x WOF strips. From the Birds and Flowers - Purple (Backing), cut:• (2) 61” x WOF strips for the backing. Sew the strips together and trim to make the 61” x 61” back.

1. Place (1) 2” Fabric T square on the left side of (1) 2” x 5 ½” Fabric B strip, right sides together (Fig. 1). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 1). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 2). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.

2. Place another 2” Fabric T square on the right side of the 2” x 5 ½” Fabric B strip, right sides together (Fig. 3). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 3). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 1 strip (Fig. 4).

3. Repeat Steps 1-2 to make (6) Unit 1 strips total.

4. Sew (1) 2” x 2 ½” Fabric T square to each side of (1) 2 ½” Fabric A square to make (1) Unit 3 strip (Fig. 5). Repeat to make (3) Unit 2 strips total.

5. Sew (1) Unit 1 strip to the top and to the bottom of (1) Unit 2 strip lengthwise to make (1) Block One square (Fig. 6). The block should measure 5 ½” square. Repeat to make (3) Block One squares total.

6. Repeat Steps 1-5 and refer to Figures 7-17 for fabric identification, placement and orientation to make (3) of each block square for Block Two through Block Twelve.

7. Follow Figure 18 and sew together the (36) 5 ½” unit squares into a 6 x 6 matrix to make the Center Block.

8. Place (1) 3 ⅞” Fabric DD square on top of (1) 3 ⅞” Fabric T square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square (Fig. 19). Sew ¼” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 19). Cut the (2) squares apart on the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 20) to make (2) half-square triangles. Trim the half-square triangles to measure 3 ½” square to make (2) Unit 3 squares (Fig. 21). Repeat to make (4) Unit 3 squares total.

9. Sew (1) 4 ¼” Fabric T triangle and (1) 4 ¼” Fabric EE triangle together. Sew (1) 3 ⅞” Fabric D triangle to the long side of the newly sewn triangle to make (1) Unit 4 square (Fig. 22). The unit should measure 3 ½” square. Repeat to make (44) Unit 4 squares total.

10. Sew (11) Unit 4 squares together to make (1) Inner Side Border (Fig. 23). Repeat to make a second Inner Side Border.

11. Sew (11) Unit 4 squares together. Sew (1) Unit 3 square to each end of the newly sewn strip to make the Inner Top Border (Fig. 24 below). Repeat to make the Inner Bottom Border.

12. Place (1) 3 ½” Fabric U square on the left side of (1) 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric GG strip, right sides together (Fig. 25). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 25). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 26). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.

13. Place another 3 ½” Fabric U square on the right side of the 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric GG strip, right sides together (Fig. 27). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 27). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 5 strip (Fig. 28).

14. Repeat Steps 12-13 to make (4) Unit 5 strips total.

15. Repeat Steps 12-13 and refer to Figures 29-40 for fabric identification, placement and seam direction to make (4) of each unit strip for Unit 6 through Unit 17.

Quilt Top Assembly (Follow the Quilt Layout while assembling the quilt top.)17. Sew (1) 2” x 30 ½” Fabric FF strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 2” x 33 ½” Fabric FF strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

18. Sew (1) Inner Side Border to each side of the Center Block. Sew the Inner Top Border and Inner Bottom Border to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

19. Sew (1) Unit 18 strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 3 ½” Fabric M square to each end of (1) Unit 18 strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

20. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 51 ½” Fabric FF strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 53 ½” Fabric FF strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top.

21. Layer and quilt as desired.

22. Sew the (6) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric FF strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

23. Bind as desired.
