Mushroom Cultivation TechnologyR. Gogoi, Y. Rathaiah and T.R. Borah

The book deals with all practical aspects of cultivation technology of four commonly grown

mushroom viz. oyster, paddy straw, button and milky mushroom. The cultivation technologies

illustrated are suited to tropical and sub-tropical conditions that are very easy to adopt and

economically viable. Methods to distinguish edible and poisonous mushrooms are well depicted.

The historical events of mushroom cultivation and recent developments are recorded in a

chronological order and concise manner. Most of the information are presented in a bound

format of Mushroom Cultivation, a newly offered optional course for 3rd year B.Sc. (Ag.). Hence

emphasis in this book is two-fold: to acquaint students and all the beginners with mushroom

culture and to appraise the people with the importance and multiprong use of mushroom.ISBN: 978-81-7233-418-4 |2006 | 135 pp. | Lib. Ed. |

C. Manoharachary, K.V.B.R. Tilak, K.V. Mallaiah & I.K. Kunwar

Fungi and microbes have predominant influence in our lives. They are directly or indirectly

involved in generating the food we eat and drink, besides providing life saving pharmaceutical

products, including the sources of enzymes. They play a vital role in recycling of organic matter

and several ecological processes. Both fungi and microbes have contributed several billion

dollars worth of technological products. For instance: yeast is used in brewing and bakery,

Lactobacillus ferments milk to yoghurt and a number of edible mushrooms are rich in nutrients

besides possessing many medicinal properties. Bacteria and fungi serve as key organisms in

understanding life processes, genetic engineering and as experimental organisms. Therefore, it

is necessary to study the biology and biotechnology of these organisms. It is a humble attempt of

the authors to make the readers understand the biology and biotechnology of fungi and microbes

in a simpler way and also to communicate the recent developments.

General MicrobiologyJamaluddin & N. Malaviya

The text book of Microbiology as taught in different courses in various universities. It has been

divided in five sections. Sections I deals with the history of microbiology, taxonomy, morphology

and reproduction of micro-organisms, wherein, a brief account of eukaryotic microorganism is

also discussed. Section II covers physio-logy wherein, a basic account of biochemistry and details

of enzyme and metabolic processes in microorganisms is included. Further, certain techniques

namely, ELISA and SDGC are also described. Section III deals with microbial genetics. Chapter

14 of this section starts with the basic terms used in genetics & description of nucleic acid.

Besides microbial genetics trans-posable elements and transposition have been given. It also

covers molecular biology Section IV deals with Applied Microbiology. Human and Plant

Diseases have been covered. Detailed account of Immunology, Soil Microbiology, and Industrial

Microbiology has been included. Geomicrobiology has been treated specially in a chapter

separately devoted to it. Section V covers techniques wherein, various types of microscopy,

instrumentation and cultural techniques are given. The students of microbiology at present are

required to consult a large number of books to grapple with the subject and, therefore, the form

and details of this book have been given in order to give them basic understanding of the subject.

Laboratory Manual of Microbiology,

Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyJyoti Saxena, M. Baunthiyal & I. Ravi

The present book "Laboratory manual of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology"

deals with actual practical trends in modern biological sciences. This book is designed to meet

the practical requirements of undergraduate and post graduate students studying Life science,

Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Biochemical Engineering courses by providing a

readymade solution to most of the common experiments prescribed by any Indian University.

Besides, the latest technological developments given in the book can be of interest to researchers

and scientists. Most attention is given to the principles and theories behind various protocols

that are explained in detail to aid understanding. It contains four chapters emphasizing on good

laboratory practices in Introduction section; commonly used equipments in second chapter

named as Instruments: Principle and Precautions; then Experiments section divided into three

parts i.e. Microbiology with more than 70 experiments, Biochemistry with 62 and Molecular

Biology having around 32 detailed protocols and at last is a comprehensive Appendix.

Laboratory Manual of MicrobiologyVivek Kumar

This laboratory manual of microbiology has been written to meet the needs of students taking

microbiology as major or subsidiary subject. The intention is to provide the students with well

organized, user-friendly tool to better enable them to understand laboratory aspects of micro-

biology as well as to hopefully make learning laboratory material and preparing for independent

player of a given experiment. Each exercise provides step-by-step procedure to complete the

assignment successfully and easily. The lab exercises are designed to give the student "hands-

on" laboratory experience to better reinforce certain topics discussed in exercise. The glossary is

included covering terms as well as basic, discipline-specific terminology from microbiology that

will be helpful to its readers. The academic level of the book is graduate, post graduate students,

research workers, teachers & scientists dealing with basic and applied aspects of microbiology.

Integrated Disease Management and

Plant HealthV.K. Gupta & R.C. Sharma

The book is divided into different sections to facilitate the readers to get in touch with the subject

of their interest. The sections though self-explanatory have been divided crop-wise with further

classification according to causal organisms. Since mushrooms are a developing industry, a

section has been added on that too. This book will provide an insight into the pathological

problems of different crops and help the reader to have broader view of different scientific

method's being used to manage them.

The subject of medical mycology has gained greatly in interest and there has arisen a great

realization of the importance of those fungi whose antibiotic products have become

indispensable in the treatment of many maladies of Man and other animals. It has therefore,

become apparent that an entirely new work is necessary, not merely as a text book for students

but also to assist the many persons now undertaking research in the various fields of study in

which the knowledge of fungi is fundamental to their work. In this work an attempt has been

made to give the user the opportunity to learn the more important characters of almost all the

generally recognized orders of fungi, and to have a foundation upon which the more intensive

study of any of these groups may be based. So many of these organisms are still known but

scantily, so that their true relationships are very doubtful. As examples, the Protomycetales and

Eccrinales may be mentioned.
