Plants are my favorite organisms!! By Katherine Barnett Rivas Distinguishing Features of Plants Plants perform photosynthesis, which means they make their own food from sunlight. 6CO2 + 6H2O = C6H O2 Plants have cell walls, which give them extra support. Plants are found all over the world in all biomes. Plants belong to the Kingdom Plantae. Varieties of Plants There are many varieties of plants from large trees to tiny plankton. Here are some of my favorites: Why are they so special? Plants are my favorite organisms because they can make their own food. In addition, they provide food for all the other organisms on Earth, AND in that process they produce oxygen as their waste product! We could not survive without plants. Why I would like to be one I would like to be a plant because then I would be totally independent. I would not have to eat anything else and I would be contributing oxygen and energy to the environment and to all other organisms. If I could choose, I would be a giant evergreen tree because they are beautiful and peaceful. Why should the class join me? Everyone should be plants because then we could make the world a cleaner, better place. There is a plant to suit all of our needs: delicate flowers, spiky cacti, strong trees and flexible grasses. Some could live in the ocean and others on land. We would have a blast! Other cool things about plants: They give us medicine They give us building materials References The World of Plants: Plants and People. United Learning (2000).
