PLASA has predicted astronger pro audiopresence than ever for

this year’s London show, held atEarls Court between September12th and the 15th. And as itswebsite shows, many of the bignames will be on boardalongside up-and-comers and

new hopefuls. The result will see a majority of theworld’s pro audio brands on the show floor withtheir own booths, represented by a dealer ordistributor, or, at the very least, milling about atthe PLASA Bar.

But before the stands were built or the gearwas loaded into lorries, API surveyed the scene tofind out the latest technologies that will beshown throughout the four-day event. Earls Court, London September 12th-15th

The latest loudspeakers, consolesand wireless systems of theentertainment industry are

blinking, humming and buzzing at theidea of being shown at PLASA 2010,held at Earls Court from September12th to 15th. With a raft of newaudio exhibitors, the organizer hasdesigned this year’s show with astrong audio focus and stated that itwill be ‘audio heaven’ for all of its proaudio visitors.

Known universally as the UK’sleading show for the internationalentertainment industry, PLASA hasbeen evolving since its inauguralevent in 1977, when it launchedunder the name Discotek 77.

Originally based on the emergingdisco and club industries, the showhas since changed faces to

accommodate the latest technologiesfor the live sound, installation,lighting and leisure industries. Thistransition began in part in 1982 when

it was renamed the BritishAssociation of DiscothequeEquipment Manufacturers Light &Sound Show, after its eponymoustrade association. The show was soonchanged to the Pro Lighting and

Sound Association Light & SoundShow in 1984 to fulfill the needs of itsincreasingly diverse exhibitor andvisitor base. This growth was

eventually accompanied by a move toits present home in West London’sEarls Court exhibition centre toaccommodate a growing number ofinternational exhibitors eager to jointhe show’s floor.

PLASA events director NicolaRowland explains how the show hasconstantly adapted to the emergingtechnologies in the many sectors boththe show and the association covers.

“The PLASA show has a policy ofaccommodating new technologiesand over the past few years we havegreatly strengthened our pre-showmarketing into vertical market sectorsand end users to reflect this.

“AV and systems integrationtechnology is now the third largestsector served by the show, behind themore traditional PLASA sectors oflive concert, touring and theatretechnology. This is a rapidly evolvingmarket and the dedicated seminarsand conferences that are taking placealongside PLASA 2010 will bringpeople together at a critical time.

“Another area in which the PLASAShow reflects market and technologychanges is the growing Education &Learning Programme, which tacklesmajor issues head-on. There is, forexample, a suite of four sessions thisyear specifically to address industryconcerns about the new EN54regulations that affect everyoneinvolved in developing voice alarm,public address and loudspeakersystems. And for the first time ever,the show is hosting the launch of twomajor new conferences.

This year’s seminar schedule will beheadlined by a masterclass fromGottelier Award winner Alex Cooper,AVP, product development at MidasKlark Teknik, on the Psychology ofSound Engineering.

Other classes include a discussionon the AVnu Alliance – E1000 802.1Audio/Video Bridging (AVB): TheFuture of Standards-Based AVNetworking, and the ISCE’s VoiceAlarm Design De-myth-defied as partof the EN54 Focus sessions.

The first-ever PLASAInternational Rigging Conferencetakes place on Monday September13th and Tuesday 14th.

Renkus-Heinz will also hostmanufacturer sessions on digital beamsteering, in addition to the first

Ecovenue feature, in association withthe Theatres Trust.

Seminars will be complemented bya new interactive Innovation Gallery,which will showcase all productsnominated for the 2010 Awards forInnovation. Manufacturers will bedemonstrating their new products ona live stage in the gallery to theawards judges throughout the day onSunday 12th. It will also open early tovisitors every morning from 9.30am tohighlight new products launched atthe show.

The recent merger with US-basedESTA and the success of the regionalPLASA Focus event are seen aselements that will expand theinternational presence of theorganisation and its activities.

RCF - ISCE15RCF will be showing new productsfrom its commercial audio andinstalled sound product ranges.Among them will be the VSA 2050, a multi-amplified, vertical,steerable array with advanced digital technology.

It will also highlight new models inits P series, including the P8015-Sweatherproof bass reflex subwooferequipped with a 15-inch, lowfrequency neodymium transducerwith four-inch voice coil and theweatherproof full range, widedispersion, IP55 compliant P4228two-way speaker equipped with adouble eight-inch woofer and a 1.4-inch neodymium compression driver.The company will also introduce theDXT 9000, a new EN 54-16/2008compliant voice evacuation system.

SAMSON 1-K23Samson Technologies is introducing anumber of new products to the UKmarket. Among these is the new AirLine Micro wireless earset system, itssmallest wireless system, whichcouples small, high-quality audiocomponents with the latest lithiumion battery technology.

Samson’s Expedition series ofportable PA solutions, which featuresthe flagship XP510i, will be displayedin addition to the new Auro activespeaker systems. The Auro D412 andD415 are lightweight, two-way activeloudspeakers, which are said tocombine superior components withmeticulous engineering.

HK AUDIO 1-E5The JHS stand will feature HKAudio’s latest and most compact

Elements PA system and the largeformat Cohedra line array systemalong side its other distributed proaudio brands.

Using six individual components,Elements can be configured for usefrom a small conference PA to a fullband stage rig. An integrated, cable-free internal E-Connect couplerprovides quick set up and versatility.New gear from Lab.gruppen, Allen & Heath and LA Audio willalso be on show.

JOECO LIMITED 1-J16JoeCo will move to a bigger stand thisyear to display the new digital I/Ooptions for its Blackbox Recorder,which now provides interfacing withAES/EBU and lightpipe equippedconsoles. The new iXML softwareoption developed for film and TVsound recording specialists will alsobe on show. A preview of theBlackbox Player option for securefailsafe live playback for music,installation and theatre applicationswill be available.

DIGICO (UK) LTD 1-E4Digico UK will be showcasing itsentire range of SD series consoles,including the SD7, SD7T, EX-007,SD8, SD8-24, and the new SD9 -featuring Stealth Digital Processing.We are also told that Digico will bemaking a big announcement at itspress conference on September 12th.

ELECTRO-VOICE/RTS TELEX 1-G28Electrovoice and RTS/Telex will beexhibiting together to show severalnew products. The newly launchedRTS MH series headsets single anddual-sided headsets will be on show,including the MH-300 – single-sidedheadset without active noisereduction (ANR), MH-302 – dual-sided headset without ANR and theMH-402 – dual-sided headset withANR. Then there’s the RTS MADI-

16+ scalable multi-channel audiodigital interface card, the DM-1Dante audio network card forNetmax and the BTR-700 systemssingle-channel UHF synthesizedwireless intercom base station withA4F headset connector.

APEX 1 L-39Apex will launch theIntelli-X2 series ofaudio systemmanagementdevices. Thenew Intelli-X248 (fourin, eight out)and Intelli-X226 (two in,six out) areboth built on a192kHz digitalprocessingplatform havestudio-grade analogcircuits, sample rateconverters with bypass facility(operating to 216kHz), AES3 andanalog I/O. The Intelli-Ware softwarecontrol platform (designed primarilyfor use on tablet and touch-screencomputers) allows multiple Intelli-X²devices to be integrated into anywired or wireless Ethernet network.

ALCONS AUDIO - 1-J11Alcons Audio will be exhibiting itspro-ribbon based sound systemprogram, from point-source, throughline-source to line-array solutions, allof which are based around proprietaryand multiple-patented pro-ribbontransducer technology.

The company will highlight theLR7 micro line-array system, theBC543 self-contained triple 18-inchcardioid subwoofer and systems fromthe ACO Architect Colour Optionprogram. As always, the company willbe holding low-SPL demos with theVR8 compact monitor and the BF151bass system.

EAW 1-F4EAW will introduce additions to theKF, KFNT, JF and JFNT seriesloudspeakers as part of the LoudTechnologies stand. The newestadditions to the KF series include theKF364, KF394, KF200NT, KF364NT

and KF394NT. KF364 andKF394 provide premium

neodymiumcomponents, a

The company states that theexceptional transient capability of itsloudspeakers is a cornerstone of itstechnology, which provides sonicresults of unique purity and realism.

SENNHEISER UK LTD 1-F6Sennheiser UK will celebrate its 20thanniversary as a subsidiary of itsGerman mother company at theshow. Its product focus will revolvearound the wireless frequency movefrom Channel 69 to Channel 38 in2012 as a resulkt of the government’sDigital Dividend Review. Channel 38solutions on show will include the G3

series range GB (606 to648MHz), 2000 series

manufactures and distributesintercom, fibre, audio and radiotechnology for the broadcast, pro-audio, event and theatre industriesfrom its nine locations across Europe,Australia, Asia and North America. Itwill highlight the new RocknetRN.345.IL expansion card for Allen& Heath digital mixing consoles.

INNOVASON 1-L39Innovason will show off its latestEclipse live digital mixing console onRed Square Audio’s booth.

New features of the board includethe new Nova 1.1.5 software, whichprovides control for ES100Ethersound modules.

Eclipse is listed as the first consolein the world to incorporate on-boardmulti-track recording via Innovason'sMARS facility. Eclipse’s finalassembly process was recently movedto Lawo AG’s new state of the artfacility in Germany, which has giventhe company access to multitude ofnew resources.MC2 AUDIO 1-F2MC2 and XTA will be present onPolar Audio with its E100 and iCore2from MC2 and a surprise productfrom XTA. HARMAN 1-E21Harman International will have rangeof new products, including microphonesand headphones from AKG, poweramplifiers from Crown, signal processingand networked systems from BSS anddbx, loudspeakers from JBL, recordingsystems and plugins from Lexicon andmixing consoles from Soundcraft andStuder. The company’s latestacquisition, Selenium will show a rangeof loudspeaker components and

enclosures. HiQnet networked audioand control system will also bedisplayed.

AVID 1-H31Avid will have the latest products in theVenue line, from the D-Show system,which features the greatest amount ofI/O and console expandability to thecompact SC48 with I/O, digital signalprocessing and tactile control combinedin a single console. It will also displaythe Profile system and its Mix Racksystem rack processing and I/Ocomponent. M-Audio brands will alsobe shown.

SADIE 1-D10Sadie will be shouting about its range ofmultitrack location recording systems,Sadie 6 editing system and new largeformat solid state recorder\workstation.Sadie 6 runs on existing Sadie 5hardware, Asio interfaces and WindowsMedia devices. It will also show thenew LRX2 64track live recordingsystem and new Live H64 solid-staterecorder. The new Live 64 and 128solid workstations were designed toprovide robust and reliable recordingsystems utilising the latest in solid statedrive technology, designed to eliminatethe element of doubt when recording intoday's live environment.
