STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET1. On your desk, you will find a student information sheet.

2. Please fill out the student information sheet entirely.

3. Once this is completed, please fill out the Student Interest Survey on the back entirely.

4. Also, on your desk, you have a manila folder. Please use one of the markers provided (in the box in the middle of the desks) and write down your last name, first name. For example: Nash – Blasingame, Kylene

5. Please place your Student Information Sheet in your folder once you have completed it and raise your hand.

6. Once I have received your folder, please begin reading over your course syllabus.

KYLENE NASH - BLASINGAME

My favorite food is chicken fettuccini alfredo.

I would love to visit Venice.

I attended Louisiana Tech University. Then, I went to Louisiana State University in Shreveport. I studied Technical Writing and English Literature.

My passion cannot be boiled down into one thing. I am passionate about my family, literature, teaching, and the pursuit of knowledge.

LEARNING TARGETS: Today, I will gain understanding of the course expectations and

requirements by reading and discussing my course syllabus.

Today, I will gain clarification of the student expectations held by the course instructor by asking questions over information I do not understand or need more specifics about.

ROUTINES & LESSON PLANS Class time will be a combination of direct

instruction, independent practice, class discussion, and group activities.

Writing assignments at least every fifth class.

Vocabulary Quizzes (bi-weekly)

AP Literature Exam Prep

Most reading will be completed OUTSIDE of class. Discussion of the reading will mostly occur INSIDE of class (The exception will be when I assign you a Canvas discussion.).

ALL TESTS & ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE POSTED IN CANVAS & IN THE CLASSROOM WEEKLY.

HOMEWORK Designed to prepare students for class assignments, lectures,

discussions and/or extend learning beyond the classroom.

Students should expect out-of-class work in the form of larger projects or assignments to assess skills and knowledge over long-range time period. In addition, much of your reading will be done OUTSIDE of class.

LATE WORK• Students must turn in a “Missing Work”

handout in lieu of the assignment.

• EMS-ISD Grading Policy will strictly be followed.

• Parents contacted on major assignments OR when missing work equals or exceeds three assignments.

MAKE-UP WORKResponsibility of the student to check Canvas &/or Absent Work bin when he/she has been absent.

Work should be made up according to EMS-ISD Grading Policy.

MAJOR & MINOR GRADES Grades will be based on the following

percentages:

Minor Grades (30%): Untimed Compositions, Homework, Quizzes, Group Work, & class discussions:

Major Grades (70%): Timed Writing/Essay Tests/ Cumulative Tests/Socratic Seminars

Extra Credit: Extra credit is available each six weeks and must be completed by the listed date. If a student elects to complete the extra credit assignment, he/she must critically read and annotate the novel assigned for that grading period. Then, the student will schedule an appointment prior to the due date to complete the assessment for that novel. The assessment will be in the form of an AP Open – Ended Response essay.

ICEBREAKER: WHO AM I? 1. On your desk, you have a sticky note.

2. You will be assigned a letter of the alphabet.

3. On your sticky note, you are to write the name of a “famous” person (current celebrity, author, or character) that has a first or last name that begins with your assigned letter. For example, if I was assigned the letter F, I could write down: Frankenstein, or Will Ferrell, or Fergie.

4. Please write down your “famous” person SECRETLY.

5. Once you have completed this, please raise your hand, and I will come collect your sticky note.
