Ben Toyne spoke to us tonight on “ Nature’s Way “ – Secondary Septic Solutions. Ben was born in Wanganui in 1987 and schooled at Keith Street Primary and then High School. He started an apprenticeship with Wanganui Plumbing in 2008 and received a licence for Plumbing, Drain Laying and Roofing in 2012 and is already operating his own business, now focused on growing it. Using waste water to feed and water an orchard or garden is a new add on to his business and is ideally suited for farms and life style blocks. The aim is to provide quality irrigation water at the end of the process. The system works on gravity and waste water is taken from a septic tank and fed through two plant filters that consist of Stone Chips, Lime and grass. From here the water feeds into a 1000 litre Dose Tank from where it can be used for irrigation. Although approved by a number of Councils in the North it still has to receive final approval from the local council. The cost to install is approximately $12 K but once in, running costs are minimal.
