Well, we’ve gotten off to a rough start this year as far as guild meetings go—first we had to cancel our January meeting due to the icy weather, and now we have to move our location to Pottorf Hall due to a funeral and lunch at St. Thomas More. I do want to remind members that we are able to rent the meeting room at St Thomas More for a significantly reduced rate with the condition that their parishioners’ needs have priority. So, when we have to occasionally make alternate arrangements, that's just part of the deal! Meanwhile, instead of focusing on the weather and the other ups and downs life brings, I prefer focusing on the positive, such as the fact that I have more time to quilt! I hope you are making good use of these winter days to do the same. I'm really looking forward to all of the mini-demos our members are prepared to share at the February meeting. I'm also looking forward to the new drawings for Block of the Month. We still have some business to take care of in the form of a formal vote to approve the creation of a new guild position, President-elect. If the constitutional change is approved, I hope to fill the office as soon as possible. There is another volunteer opening for at least two or three members that I would like to fill. I would really like to see us find some type of fund-raiser, such as the Mini-quilt Auction we've held in the past, in addition to working to promote the T-shirt quilting project. The Mini-quilt auction has been one of our major fundraisers in the past and is one reason we are able to bring a number of interesting speakers to present at our meetings and workshops. If you are willing to chair the Mini-quilt Auction, or have an idea for an alternative project, please let me or any member of the board know now. May you quilt to your heart’s content, Betty If you have any questions about how we handle pictures and identifications posted on the internet, please contact one of our officers or the newsletter editor.

Michelle Crisler: Mini Dolls; Ann Emerson: Fabric

Painting; Carol Pacey: Coiled Fabric Bowls; Lana Arpin:

Snap Bags; Vevia Beaulieu: Turned Applique’ with

“Apliquick” tool.

Mar 9 Pieces of the Prairie: Lori Triplett—aka Esther—will

share tales of 1800 pioneer quilts.

Well, we’ve gotten off to a rough start this year as far as guild meetings go—first we

had to cancel our January meeting due to the icy weather, and now we have to move our

location to Pottorf Hall due to a funeral and lunch at St. Thomas More. I do want to

remind members that we are able to rent the meeting room at St Thomas More for

a significantly reduced rate with the condition that their parishioners’ needs have

priority. So, when we have to occasionally make alternate arrangements, that's just

part of the deal!

Meanwhile, instead of focusing on the weather and the other ups and downs life

brings, I prefer focusing on the positive, such as the fact that I have more time to

quilt! I hope you are making good use of these winter days to do the same. I'm

really looking forward to all of the mini-demos our members are prepared to share

at the February meeting. I'm also looking forward to the new drawings for Block of

the Month. We still have some business to take care of in the form of a formal vote

to approve the creation of a new guild position, President-elect. If the constitutional

change is approved, I hope to fill the office as soon as possible.

There is another volunteer opening for at least two or three members that I

would like to fill. I would really like to see us find some type of fund-raiser, such as

the Mini-quilt Auction we've held in the past, in addition to working to promote the

T-shirt quilting project. The Mini-quilt auction has been one of our major

fundraisers in the past and is one reason we are able to bring a number of

interesting speakers to present at our meetings and workshops. If you are willing to

chair the Mini-quilt Auction, or have an idea for an alternative project, please let me

or any member of the board know now.

May you quilt to your heart’s content,

Betty

KPQG Constitutional Amendment

Please remember that we will be voting on an amendment to the KPQG Constitution at the upcoming meeting. The

amendment will add the position of President-elect to our offices. The duties of the President-elect would be added to

Article V, Section 4 and include:

a. Shall preside over guild and board meetings in the absence of the president and past president.

b. Shall be authorized to receive payments and sign checks for budgeted items in the absence of the

treasurer.

c. Chair the membership committee and contact all new members to welcome them to the guild.

d. Serve on the nominating committee.

e. Accept the position of President the following year.

This amendment was approved by the board at its December 16 meeting. As defined in Article VIII—Procedure for

Amendment, Section 2, an amendment can be ratified “in whole or in part by a simple majority of members present at a

duly organized meeting of the Guild.”. Please plan to attend.

Block of the Month Kristy Armstrong introduced the 2020 quilt block of the month at our December meeting with a fun new twist—a

quilt block raffle. Each month she will be presenting a new 12 ½ “ block pattern to make in a new color

combination. Members are encouraged to make as many blocks as they wish for that month and bring them to the

next meeting to be entered into a drawing. For each block that a quilter submits, her name will go into the drawing.

The more blocks you make, the more raffle opportunities you earn. The name drawn will win a stack of blocks to

make into a small quilt top. The number of stacks given away will be determined by the number of blocks entered

that month. You can find the instructions posted on Facebook (Konza Prairie Quilters Guild community page) or a

Block. Of course, you can still make a block to keep for yourself in colors of your choice to make a 12-block quilt top

at the end of the year as usual. That way you will have at least one new top and will perhaps win more!

March BOM:

Color 1 & 2: Pink

Color 3: Black

Be kind. Turn off your phones before the meeting and refrain

from conversations while others are speaking. Thank you!
