Contemporary Issues in Cancer Imaging Imaging is pivotal in all aspects of the management of patients with cancer; all members of the multidisciplinary team managing the cancer patient should understand the potential applications, limitations and advantages of imaging techniques, and the radiologist should have sufficient knowledge of the pathology, clinical background, therapeutic options and prognostic indicators of different tumours to understand the significance of imaging findings.

Each volume in Contemporary Issues in Cancer Imaging will be dedicated to a single tumour site and edited by recognised guest expert editors. The series will bring together expertise from radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, surgeons, basic scientists and others to not only promote the understanding and rational application of modern imaging but also help in the overall management of patients with cancer.

Series editors: Rodney Reznek and Janet Husband

Cancer PainAssessment and ManagementEdited by Eduardo D. BrueraUniversity of Texas, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, UKand Russell K. PortenoyBeth Israel Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USANearly one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer, and many of these patients will suffer from related cancer pain. Cancer-associated pain is widely feared by cancer patients, but knowledge about the causes and management of cancer pain has increased dramatically in recent years and many new treatment options are available.

This comprehensive book discusses the unique characteristics of cancer pain, including its pathophysiology, clinical assessment, diagnosis, pharmacological management and nonpharmacological treatment. The internationally recognized authors are leaders in cancer pain research, and they apply their first-hand knowledge in summarizing the principal issues in the clinical management of cancer pain. It cohesively addresses the full range of disciplines regularly involved in cancer pain management, including pharmacology, communication studies, and psychology.

‘… this is an excellent book. It presents a vast array of information in a clear, accurate and accessible fashion, which is relevant to the non-specialist and specialist alike … it represents very good value. In producing a textbook on cancer pain, the editors’ stated aim was to provide a ‘comprehensive, clinically oriented, and scholarly review of all aspects of this complex and multidimensional problem’. They have succeeded admirably.’Palliative Medicine

Handbook of advanced Cancer CareEdited by Michael J. Fischand Eduardo BrueraBoth from MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, USAPatients with advanced cancer increasingly receive end-of-life care from a variety of health care professionals, physicians and nurses. This is the first comprehensive source of information available to these professionals at a level between specialist oncology texts and nursing texts. Two eminent physicians from one of the world’s foremost cancer centers have drawn together a remarkable team to provide a handbook which covers the full range of problems non-specialists will encounter. This highly accessible text covers general principles in oncology, the primary tumors, and management of specific symptoms and syndromes.

‘The purpose of this excellent book is to provide up to date information for the nonspecialist on the treatment of the different cancers and the management of the various symptoms that can arise during treatment … it provides a very useful single source to enable the nonspecialist (GP, practice nurse, general physician/surgeon) to quickly get an overview of an individual cancer … the book is accessible, easy to read and has a comprehensive index. This book fills a large gap in the market and will be of great interest to GPs, General Physicians and Surgeons, Medical Students and both Hospital and Primary Care Nurses, for all of whom it represents very good value for money … will become a well established and successful text.’Palliative Medicine
