From that moment on, through 1943, her life revolves around books stolen, books given, and books written. Death is the narrator and tells the story of this young orphan girl. Zusak's wonderful details bring the everyday streets and citizens of Molching to life. Henderson’s Boys ¹ by Robert Muchamore During World War II, two British children are on the run from German agents. British spy Charles Henderson needs the help of a twelve-year-old French orphan if he wants to find them before the Germans do. A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly In 1906, sixteen-year-old Mattie who is determined to attend college and be a writer goes against the wishes of her father and her fiancé and takes a job at a summer inn where she discovers the truth about the death of a guest. Cooney Miranda and Lander as different as sisters can be, but usually get along despite healthy sibling rivalry. One summer, a boy comes between them. When that boy is driving a boat that leads to a terrible accident, Miranda is certain he caused the accident. Is Miranda's just jealous of Lander? Or did she really see what she thinks she saw? One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus Five students are sent to detention at Bayview High: the brain; the beauty; the criminal; the athlete; and Simon, the outcast. One doesn't make it out alive–Simon. The creator of an infamous gossip app, he had promised to release gossip about all four of his co-detention attendees, which means all four are suspects in his murder. To Catch a Killer by Sheryl Scarborough As a toddler, Erin survived for three days with the corpse of her murdered mother; the unsolved case fascinated the nation. Years later, true-crime buff Stevie Bell enters Ellingham with a goal to solve the cold case. Then Truly Devious makes a surprising return, and another death rocks Ellingham Academy. The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater Explores the true stories of Sasha and Richard, two teens from Oakland, California, who never would have met if not for the 57 Bus which they both were taking home one day. Richard, an African American boy, had a lighter; Sasha, a white boy, wore a skirt. A dare to use the lighter changes both boy's lives forever. Fight to Learn by Laura Scandiffio Around the world, universal access to education is currently just a dream, but in some bright corners of the Earth the dream has come true through the vision and drive of amazing individuals whose stories are presented here.

An American Road Trip by Patrick Flores-Scott Some hard hits take "T" Avila down the summer before his senior year, not least of which being his beloved older brother returning from Iraq with severe PTSD. Desperate to save Manny from himself and to heal his family, T's fiery sister, tricks her brothers into going on a road trip. Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick Steven plays drums in the jazz band, has a crush on the hottest girl in school, and is constantly annoyed by his little brother, Jeffrey. When Jeffrey is diagnosed with leukemia, Steven's world is turned upside down. He must deal with his brother's illness and his parents' attempts to keep the family in one piece. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta Taylor was abandoned on Jellicoe Road by her addict mother. Now, living at a boarding school, she occupies her time with border wars with other local teens. The only person she feels close to is Hannah who lives nearby. When Hannah suddenly disappears, Taylor must confront her past and discover what really happened on Jellicoe Road. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson "Speak up for yourself-we want to know what you have to say." From the beginning of freshman year, Melinda knows that this is a big lie. She is friendless, an outcast, because she called the cops at a party. She practically stops talking altogether. Only her art class offers any solace. Through an art project she is finally able to face what really happened at that terrible party. We Were Liars by E Lockhart Cadence and her cousins have grown up summering on private Beechwood island. She returns to the island after recovering from an accident which left her with migraines and memory loss. Her family refuses to talk about her accident and the secret that she slowly remembers throughout the summer is horrific. The Family Romanov by Candace Fleming Tells the story of the last days of the Romanov dynasty in Russia and how Tsar Nicholas II’s lack of understanding of his people and the rise of the Bolsheviks, combined with Tsarina Alexandra’s faith in Rasputin led to their demise. Give Me Wings by Kathy Lowinger Not long after the end of the Civil War, the Fisk Free Colored School was created. Fisk got off to a rocky start, but George White, music teacher and treasurer, put together the Jubilee Singers. They toured the country and even parts of Europe, singing old slave songs, which came to be called spirituals, and raised enough money to keep the school going! Shoe Dog* by Phil Knight Phil Knight, cofounder of the Nike corporation, offers a memoir describing the many early obstacles to building his brand, and the luck, faith, relationships, and determination that helped him rise to fame and fortune.

Wade enters into a quest to solve the puzzles that the creator of OASIS, James Halliday, built into the system before he died, which will yield massive power and wealth to whoever solves them. Steelheart¹ by Brandon Sanderson At age eight, David watched as his father was killed by an Epic, a human with superhuman powers, and now, ten years later, he joins the Reckoners--the only people who are trying to kill the Epics and end their tyranny.
