Countable nounsMost of the nouns are countable. You can combine them with numbers, e.g one, two or three...

proportion, color, canvas, brush, easel, shape, shade, style, theme, skill, exhibition, form, gallery, workshop, image, installation, photo, print...

Uncountable nounsThese nouns cannot be combined with numbers.

If you want to express a quantity, you have to use a special phrase e.g. a glass of water, a piece of advice, a pound of plaster,...

Note:Some nouns can be either countable or uncountable. Use a good dictionary to find out whether a noun is countable or uncountable or both.Here is an example: hair – hairs

The Plural of NounsRules and Examples

Most singular nouns are made plural by simply putting an -s at the end. There are many different rules regarding pluralization depending on what letter a noun ends in. Irregular nouns do not follow plural noun rules, so they must be memorized or looked up in the dictionary.

There are many plural noun rules, and because we use nouns so frequently when writing, it’s important to know all of them! The correct spelling usually depends on what letter the singular noun ends in.1 To make regular nouns plural, add -s to the end.designer – designerslandscape - landscapestexture - textures2 If the singular noun ends in -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, or -z, add -es to the end to make it plural.bus – busesdish – dishesglass - glasses
