I was born on an 88 acre produce and trucking farm. When we turned five years old we were required to plant, weed, and pick produce along side our migrant workers. My sisters and I worked out in the fields in the sun, in the cold, in the rain and in the midst of lightening and thunder. On alternate days of the week we sold our produce at the Farmer’s Market. On the farm our studies were not a priority, work was. There was never time allowed for studying until the work was finished. The problem was it was never finished. Consequently, we were too tired to study, so when it came to grades my siblings and I slid by.It was Father Don who convinced me to go to college. I was afraid I wasn’t smart enough, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer. He helped me choose two classes, “How to Study” and “Speed Reading.” He showed me around campus pointing out the buildings where my classes were held. I aced my classes. After nine years I graduated. Hemingway wrote, “The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places.” I felt strong, and able to conquer the world on graduation day! The girls were in high school when I went on to graduate school where I earned my Master’s in Psychology. Two years later I opened a private practice. ~ Tess Marshall The Bold Life

improve performance and lay a happy foundation for life. It’s during these negative or conflicted times that staying positive becomes challenging. Here are easy steps for creating more positivity in your life:

1. Believe positivity is a choiceSee being positive as a preconceived strategy. Choose to stay positive all the time and take on the responsible approach to maintain it throughout your life.Evaluate your current situation, choose a positive viewpoint about it, create a positive vision about the future from this new standpoint, and think of all the possibilities to get there.

2. Get all negativity under controlLearn to control your immediate reaction and responses to negative situations or thoughts, by instantly creating a space between this negativity and yourself.Only respond after thinking, planning, assessing and considering the consequences. You need to establish reason, find the logic, and calculate the aftermath before you act.Avoid over analyzing or over thinking the situation. Old wounds are normally the cause of thinking about it too much and can distort the trueness of this current event.

3. Focus on 3 things that make you happy every dayAnalyse what it is that comes naturally to you during the day. Maybe you simply have to go to gym to feel good and you get edgy when you don’t. Or you find that cooking is where you spend most of your time. Or you may find yourself dreaming up stories all day which could mean you love writing fiction.Find those things, write them down and evaluate why they make you happy, and then try to put that findings into other things.

Three Tips for Overcoming Any Obstacle in Your LifeTwenty seven years ago, I was born an achondroplastic dwarf. This means that I have an average height torso but shorter arms and legs. I stand 4 feet tall. Every day I’m forced to adapt to the “average” height world that we live in.Dwarfism is a recognized condition under the Americans with Disabilities Act, but a large number of people with disabilities will tell you that they wouldn’t change anything except for how the world reacts to their disability.I feel responsible for educating everyone I come across in my everyday life that people with disabilities really are no different. Whether it’s using a stool or pedal extensions for driving, I figure out a way to overcome the obstacle in front of me and work it out. I’ve learned to accept that the world isn’t going to adapt to me so I choose to focus on everything I can do, even if it’s a different way than everyone else. Here are my tips for how to overcome any obstacle:1. Smile. A smile goes a long way. 2. Stay focused on the positives instead of the negatives. No matter what obstacles have come my way, staying positive has allowed me to overcome them. 3. Don’t ever give up. When I first moved out to Los Angeles after growing up in Boston, I went on one hundred job interviews before starting my current position. If I wasn’t right for those one hundred positions, I knew there still had to be an opportunity out there for me.

Graduate educationThere are people who do not pursue college education during their early days. For those who do, some of them do not continue with graduate education immediately after completing their first degree. These people have several reasons for not pursuing their studies at that time.Firstly, they may lack the financial support for their study. Secondly, they may not be able to meet the entrance criteria set by the college. Thirdly, they may lack the interest to study. Fourthly, they may not be able to find their desired course in any of the colleges. Hence, they started looking for a job with whatever qualification they have, eventually found a job and began to work. After working for some time, some of these people start to show interest in pursuing their education to a higher level-something that they did not do previously. They are keen to pick up where they had left off. There are several compelling reasons why they want to do this. These people could have been promoted to a higher position after working in the industry for a period of time and they need to acquire more knowledge in the field they are working. When a person is given a higher position, the demand for knowledge in a certain subject also increases. Hence, he or she needs to learn more about that subject in order to perform his or her duties efficiently. For example, if an engineer is promoted to be a chief engineer, he or she should increase his or her engineering knowledge. Perhaps, in another case, if an engineer is promoted to be the head of the engineering department, he or she should learn more about management skills. In either case, the person has to acquire more knowledge in order to perform the new responsibilities well.Is it too late for these people to learn again? The answer is no. It is never too late for them to learn as long as they have the means and the opportunity to do so. If they are interested to learn, and have the money and time to do so, they should take the chance to learn.

their educationc) They have been promoted to a higher position after working in the industry for a

period of time and they need to acquire more knowledge in the field they are working

Why it’s never too late to return to educationWhenever talking about education with loved ones or co-workers it’s common to hear the phrase “if only I was younger” or “I’m too old to…” The truth of the matter is that kind of statement is inaccurate. Is adult learning really that difficult? Does it really require hours and hours of quite study and brain-busting thought? No, it doesn’t, and it’s easier to do that you might think. Let’s explore why it’s never too late to return to education.Truth be told, it does not cost much or take all that much time for an adult to return to education. Adult education delivers opportunities to equip you with the skills to take part in your life; your life as a parent, a family member, or community member. Adult education can give you the skills required to become competitive again in an economy that is ever changing. The opportunities that once existed in the economy yesterday may no longer exist today, but you still need to eat, you still need to smile, and you still need to sleep, so look to education as the avenue to get you there. Many classes are held in the evening because it is understood that adults typically work the morning to afternoon shifts. You can earn your GED, a Certificate in a particular skill set, a Vocational Certification, or even a Master’s Degree online.

Teenagers 'mismatched' job ambitions

There is a "massive mismatch" between young people's career expectations and the reality of the jobs available, a major survey of teenagers suggests. It highlights the need for better careers advice, says Nick Chambers, director of the Education and Employers Taskforce, which published the survey. The study also indicates teenagers have a very weak understanding of potential earnings for different types of jobs. There is a serious "information gap" for teenagers, says Mr Chambers.Missing qualificationsThe study, based on a survey of 11,000 13- to 16-year-olds, is an attempt to map the job ambitions of teenagers against the employment market up to 2020. It shows teenagers have a weak grasp of the availability of jobs - and that large numbers will be aiming for jobs that are in short supply. For instance, there are 10 times as many people aiming for jobs in the culture, media and sports sector than there are jobs likely to be available. And even though almost a quarter of jobs are in the distribution, hotels and restaurant category, only about one in 40 youngsters are considering careers in these industries.Fewer than one in 30 young people are considering jobs in banking and finance, even though one in five jobs are expected to be in this sector. The report also looks at the perceptions of young people about types of employment. Among the 10 least preferred occupations are jobs such as surveyor and speech therapist, even though they are likely to earn above-average pay.The most preferred employment areas, from the perspective of teenagers, include teaching, the law, the police, psychology and sport. These might be influenced either by role models such as teachers at school - or else by media images.

Great Expectations: Teenagers’ Career Aspirations Versus the Reality of the UK Jobs Market

by Rob Slane Today sees the launch of a new report looking into the careers aspirations of young people together with the realities of the labour market. Published by City & Guilds and supported by EMSI, Great Expectations: Teenagers’ Career Aspirations Versus the Reality of the UK Jobs Market lifts the lid on young people’s attitudes to their future careers and to current careers advice. The report is based on a survey City & Guilds commissioned back in September, in which YouGov asked a total of 3,154 people aged 14-19 across the country a number of questions about their career aspirations and future hopes. These included:

✓ What they consider to be the most important factors when considering their future career

✓ What salary expectations they have✓ Which industry areas they would consider working in once they finish studying

The results are both fascinating and eye-opening. According to City & Guilds’ press release:The survey of over 3,000 14-19 year olds found young people were largely misinformed about how to secure their dream job with little understanding of the best routes to get there. Teenagers also had a low awareness of the range of jobs available when it came to choosing their dream career — two thirds of all the available jobs were entirely overlooked by respondents. City & Guilds worked with economic modellers EMSI to map responses against the available jobs now and in the future to show the mismatches between aspiration and reality and found that:

✓ 26% of respondents would like to work in professional, scientific and technical roles, whereas the proportion of people working in this sector is forecast to be 9% in 2022.

✓ 19% wanted to work in education, whereas just 8% of the population will be employed in this sector in 2022.

✓ 19% of respondents selected information and communication as their industry of choice, yet the proportion of people who will be working in this sector in 2022 is predicted to be just 4%.

Questão 11Nível de dificuldade: Média – Habilidade do ENEM: H5; H7 How could questions prepared by City & Guilds help young people think about their future careers?

The questions would help young people to think more appropriately about choosing a

particular career. In addition, young people could begin to analyze whether the salary they

would receive would be favorable with their expectations or not and what are the possible

areas.

Questão 12Nível de dificuldade: Fácil – Habilidade do ENEM: H5; H6 What was the result of the survey conducted with more than 3000 young people from 14 to 19 years?

The survey found young people were largely misinformed about how to secure their dream job

with little understanding of the best routes to get there. Teenagers also had a low awareness

of the range of jobs available when it came to choosing their dream career — two thirds of all

the available jobs were entirely overlooked by respondents. Therefore, the areas most

requested by young people were scientific and technological, educational and communication.
